Is Weeds' flame fizzling out five seasons deep? There's speculation that Mary-Louise Parker might depart in 2010 and the show's once-kicky arc is taking a noir-ish turn.
Here's what fans in our Weeds forums had to say about the hazy future of Weeds.
NANCY: DEAD WOMAN WALKING?
-- RagingNaruto thinks Parker's departure wouldn't affect the show too much: "I think the way the show is going it could continue on after Mary-Louise leaves. I could see Silas becoming the main character with he's business with Doug. Reminds me of season 2. If they killed off Nancy, Silas and Andy could move [and] be the guardians of Shane."
-- ThatTreeUpeedOn agrees that Nancy's time has come: "If they did kill off Nancy I could see the show going in a nice direction. I see Shane and Isabelle conducting something brilliant. Andy does something different instead of sexing up every lady he sees. I mean, Andy has shown that he is actually a pretty intelligent guy, so, if the group were to start another project together, maybe Andy could be the ring leader. So then Celia's husband, Doug, Andy, and Silas... maybe even CELIA could do something together! But yeah, I'm totally feeling the Shane and Isabelle super duo."
SEASON FIVE: TOO WEAK?
-- angelfisherjo is optimistic about the remainder of the season: "I like it, seems to be improving from ep 4 onwards, I'm very interested to see where it goes this season, but it is a lot more drama then comedy these days, but still a fan of all the dysfunction."
-- alexd88 is bored with the format: "Season 5 is the worst so far, it's almost impossible to even compare to season 4. If the episodes were longer than 30 minutes I think I'd fall asleep. I hope it picks up before mid-season."
-- Pedrosense is disappointed with the storyline: "After a great season 4 we are being given a filler season with some good moments and some not so good... The main letdown for Weeds is that there isn't much to tell and they kill all the interesting stories and characters. (Even the DEA Agent that could bring some seriousness to the show gets to be a comic relief and then is "shutdowned"). The Whole Mexican Mafia thing is getting too annoying... We are presented with dumb characters with funny lines or the always whispering voice of Esteban.... such a flat character... after 4 great seasons and being a truly devoted fan I can truly say that i'm getting detached of Weeds."
-- vitalidex is frustrated with the show's obsession with drama: "It's just like the second half of season 4 AND nearly the entire 5th season of House. That is to say, it's disappointing. It really seems like the writers are running out of ideas, grasping at straws, trying anything to top what they had done before. I think, they shouldn't be trying to one up themselves with drama, instead, give me more of the same! End this mexican mafia mayoral bull$#!7, send them back to Agrestic/Majestic or some small town, let Nancy work her way up to weed kingpin! Every time Nancy gets up there, something unbelievable occurs that knocks her down below where she started. It's as if fate is out to get her, which is hard to believe. I'd like to see her children take up more of the main storyline. After all, they're the only ones in the family business anymore. Their storylines, Shane's bogus teacher, the other one's (don't remember his name) medical marijuana business with Doug, are way, way more fun to watch than Nancy's. Nancy's life... is such a downer... I don't want to be depressed because of my favorite TV show!"
SEASON SIX: WHAT COMES NEXT?
-- jra3209 thinks the show has seen better days: "Mary Louise-Parker's contract ends after next season. I think 6 seasons is enough and next year they should call it quits and tie up the series."
-- visi0n, on the other hand, thinks the show has a future: "Is that all this show can be? Six seasons? I guess the model for television has changed.... something as solid as this could run longer, it has the potential."

Nancy's just getting her second wind. Now that Silas is taking over the family business, with younger brother Shane's help, Nancy can retire with Esteban and start a new family. LOL Fat chance. I hope she does have the baby, to further complicate her life. And we all know that Esteban has to die, leaving her penniless and homeless. Again. This time with a toddler on her hands. There are enough great storylines to write around Nancy's life to keep the show fresh and interesting for the next 10 years.I must be a minority of one. I actually like the current season. It's shaping up to be really great. Shane's way of "shooting a bird at the teacher" was beyond dark comedy. I don't think Nancy should ever become a kingpin; something has to knock down her house of cards every time. But I do think she should keep trying for several more seasons, before the final episode, in which she will probably be fingered as the kingpin that she tried so hard to be, but never was, and we'll see her carted off to a maximum security prison for the rest of her life. No happily ever after for our poor Nancy.moreless
Another example how I should not read these kind of articles because I agree with them entirely. Kinda like how all the negativity about Heroes influenced me into thinking it's bad. I love Weeds, though it misses the addiction it used to have, it's still one out of two shows this summer I look forward to every week. Nancy has become so far that the show could go on without her, but I wouldn't like it.
I think Weeds is as good as it always been!!!
i loved weeds.. but now is getting more and more boring and repetitive... and without MLP this show is nonsense... close it and move on... we had enough...
I haven't startet to watch season five yet, but the 4th wsn't as good as the previous ones. I think once Celie discovered what's Nancy's businesses they should have created a beter story than the one with the Mexican maffia. And I agree with people who think Nancy has changed a lot.
The show seems to have run its course
I gave up on this show after the horrible season 4. I hate the Nancy character now. She is the worst parent and I can't stand to watch her.
I was mentioned in this article! I am now a celebrity.
This show used to be a "must watch when first aired" show. Now, it sits in my DVR until I find time to watch it:(
Im so sick of Nancy and that stupid wide eyed dead face she makes, Kill her off, all she does is ignore her kids and screw things up.
Mary Louise Parker is NOT leaving the show after season 6. I don't have the URL but go to the Weeds forum to see it
Season 5 sucks. I blame it on Esteban. I don't care about the character at all. Esteban should die, not Nancy!
The show has started to kick in...i'll wait before I badmouth
Of course the show has seen better days! Its hard to stretch ANY show past a few seasons and keep it fresh and new! Most of the time they just get silly and less interesting. This show should have ended after season 4, with a well written finale!
uh, wait-kill off the main character?never a good idea.id completely stop watching.s1-3 were great.everything went down the gutter when the gutters of agrestic burnt down.and how can anyone even think it would be a better show without nancy?
I love Weeds, and would die if something were to happen to Nancy! How can people say this is the worst season? As much as I love the show, I felt 3 was the weakest, and 4 good only because it was better than 3. This season is great so far!
I use to like this show very much now I don't care if I miss it our not. I think that it is done. Especially if Mary leaves the show.
