Not be outdone by today's list of Golden Globe Awards nominations, the Writers Guild of America today announced its nominations for the television portion of its WGA Awards.
Several shows whose names weren't called that often by other awards shows got their time in the limelight from the WGA, including Friday Night Lights and The Wire. Both shows were nominated for best dramatic series, along with Dexter, Mad Men, and The Sopranos.
In the comedy category, HBO's quirky comedy Flight of the Conchords got its first major nomination of its young life. The show about two New Zealand folk singers trying to make it in New York City will be battling 30 Rock, The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Entourage.
The WGA also recognizes new series in its own category, with Golden Globe nominee leader Damages looking like the early favorite. The FX legal drama is up against The Sarah Silverman Program, Pushing Daisies, Mad Men, and Flight of the Conchords.
The 60th Anniversary WGA award show will be held on February 9. A partial list of nominees is below. For a complete list of nominees, head over to the WGA's official site.

SAVE THE BLACK DONNELLYS!!!
Dexter and Damages are by far the best written drams of the bunch. It is unfortunate that Pushing Daisies is up against Damages. Daisies has some of the quickest, wittiest and downright fun dialog to listen to. If I were voting I really would only be swayed by the fact that Daisies is such a fresh concept I just might have to decide based on that.
Nearly everything on these noms is ace, I just don't agree with some of the episodes chosen.
I agree with domino87. People who think this is weird are brainwashed by mainstream. FINALLY, a list that ACTUALLY spells out quality, especially the Drama category. And thank God they finally recognized The Wire, by far the most under-rated drama on TV - to me much better in most respects to any other drama on TV in a long time. Dexter had me on the edge of my seat, but the cast leaves a lot to be desired. 30 Rock is what Studio 60 should have been: quirky and non-pretentious. The Office is the only vastly over-rated show of the bunch, followed closely by Damages.
Dexter is by far the best drama show on TV period. You'll never guess what will come next... that is how good the writing and execution is by the actors as well.
FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS!!!!
I love them like no other.
thumbs up to FNL...love it madly, though to be honest dexter is more "dramatic"...but then it does follow a book (loosely i accept) which is easier to do than anything else!
It's all about Dexter and Pushing Daisies. And The Office for good measure.
Glad to see Both of my two favorite shows, PD and Lost up there. Now if only these guys could get back to work, I could rest easy.
Anyone who thinks this is a bad/weird list of nominations needs to be shot. You people do realize that the WGA consists of the people who write EVERY scripted show that airs on ANY channel? If they can't get the nominations right, no body can. And they certainly put out a great list of nominees. Tip of the hat to the WGA.
These noms seem very weird to me.
Is it just me or are these nominations kinda weird??
GH and AMC are Better than all the other ridiculous soaps story lines out there way to go guys
I don't get it how can Kill Gill get a nomination that episode was terrible.
30 Rock, Pushing Dasies, and the Closer.
These are great except for the daytime awards. AMC and GH for writing. Please no way.
Anyone that has seen Dexter - any episode, even the weakest one, couldn't possibly think any other show deserved to be the best Dramatic Series. There hasn't been a show on any television network as creative, involving, nail-biting or sheer out of left field in not just years, but ever. Truly in all the 40 years I have watched television nothing has ever demanded such total viewing concentration. Hats off to every single person involved and congratulations on this nomination and the writer episode one too.
To the person that said these are dumb nominations, why would you say that? Cause Gossip Girl or Heroes isn't on the list??? Anyway great nominations.
At least someone is giving Friday Night Lights the respect it deserves... My pick for best drama of course, is FNL, best comedy 30 Rock, best new series either Damages or Pushing Daisies...
I'm mostly impressed with the nominations. I'd be hard pressed to pick a winner between Dexter and The Wire this year. They both blew me away.
much better then the golden globes, just don't see how both like the horrible show that is entourage.
Yep! Same here dumb nominations, specially coming from the people that are keepping my fave shows off-track.
dumb nominations
How does "Kill Gill" get a nomination!?
Flight of the conchords! That's so great. I don't think they'll win, but great.
so good to see Friday Night Lights getting some recognition!
I'm glad to see some love for Friday Night Lights and The Wire :)
Go Simpsons the only thing I see winning
Sooo who's gonna write the script for the show?
Hope Pushing Daisies and Dexter win!!!!!!!!!!!!!
