TV.com's pick of the best TV shows on Aussie screens this week.

Jessica Watson: True Spirit
Premiere. Sir Richard Branson narrates this documentary, which follows the epic journey of teen sailor Jessica Watson. With never before seen footage, it shows how she battled sleep deprivation, gale-force winds, mountainous seas and solitude on her quest to become the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world.

Airs: 7:30pm Monday on ONE

Rescue: Special Ops
Lincoln Lewis guest stars as Sam, son of Vince (Peter Phelps), and a boy with a taste for speed. But a local drag-racing stunt backfires when a vigilante takes matters into his own hands, putting father and son at odds for the rest of the episode. There are the usual romantic story lines for several characters and a clumsily-staged scene in which a bloke has had enough of his neighbours watching country music videos on pay TV.

Airs: 8:30pm Monday on Nine

Covert Affairs
Premiere. Piper Perabo stars as a new recruit to the CIA in this glossy, extended debut of a brand new series from the USA Network. She's a wily woman who shows a lot of promise on her first assignment, but her heart longs for a holiday romance that didn't end so well. Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) is good as her CIA sidekick, even if his blindness is a little at odds with his job description. Peter Gallagher (The O.C.) also has a supporting role. Broadly entertaining, but it's no Alias just yet.

Airs: 9:30pm Monday on Seven

Final. This is the last-ever episode from the firm of McNamara/Troy, and while it ends with a whimper rather than a bang, we will surely miss those over-the-top story lines, outrageous guest stars, squeamish surgery scenes and camp fun ("The Carver" was king). Ryan Murphy pens the finale that wraps it all up for Sean, Christian, Julia, Matt, Liz, Kimber and Ava, with a sentimental ending for long-time fans.

Airs: 11:45pm Monday on GO!

My First Gig
New series. Jimmy Barnes returns for a new season of profiling Aussie musos and their early musical influences. We kick off with Kasey Chambers talking about life on the Nullarbor, listening to the music her parents played. Later, they perform the duet “If I Need You” by Emmylou Harris. Guests this season include Renee Geyer, Troy Cassar-Daley, Ian Moss, Brian Cadd and Glenn Shorrock.

Airs: 9:30pm Tuesday on MAX

Spartacus: Blood and Sand
Premiere. Buff gladiators, gory battle scenes, torrid romance and special effects -- this new series is unlike anything else on the box. Heavily influenced by the movie 300, this is a CGI spectacle set among the Roman Empire. Aussie Andy Whitfield makes a sexy Spartacus in this double-episode premiere, which also features John Hannah and Lucy Lawless. Think of this as a rock video version of Rome and you will probably have a lot of fun. Follows the premiere of Human Target.

Airs: 9:30pm Wednesday on GO!

True Blood
New series. Get ready for another rollicking season of the brashest vamps from the Deep South. Sookie (Anna Paquin) is desperately searching for Bill (Stephen Moyer) who has been kidnapped by a group of drunk men -- one of which is Aussie Grant Bowler. Jason (Ryan Kwanten) pairs up with two women, but they mess with his conscience. And Sam (Sam Trammel) is on a personal mission with an imagination that blurs reality with sexuality. This episode puts the building blocks in place for another ripping season.

Airs: 8:30pm Thursday on Showcase

After Dominic (Josef Ber) went off the deep end last week, how will Lawson (Rodger Corser) view his future on the team? Has he gone past the point of no return? This week the Tactical Response team is charged with protecting a visiting Prime Minister from the Pacific, which distracts new team member Christian (Kevin Hofbauer), while Audrey (Camille Keenan) veers on stalking Michael (Ashley Zukerman).

Airs: 8:30pm Thursday on TEN

12th Annual Teen Choice Awards
Special. Katy Perry hosts this event with a little help from Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale and Cory Monteith, the boys from Glee. There are awards in TV, film, music, fashion and a performance by one Justin Bieber.

Airs: 2pm Sunday on TEN

Go! has strangled the life out of Spartacus Blood and Sand by removing all nudity, blood-splatter and offensive language. Australian audiences have been robbed by a cowardly network afraid of any criticism that such a confronting show might bring from prudes who probably wouldn't be interested in watching any way. For shame!
