What to Watch: July 5 - 11

TV.com's pick of the best TV shows on Aussie screens this week.

MasterChef Australia
Master pastry chef, Adriano Zumbo, returns to MasterChef this week -- not to produce a fine array of desserts, but to pile on the pressure in a test that sees the contestants trying frantically to construct a tower of 120 macaroons high. With the format becoming ever more unpredictable, whose fate might be decided by a dropped cookie?

Airs: 7:30pm Monday on TEN

Rescue: Special Ops
After a clunky kick-start back into the second season of Rescue: Special Ops, here's hoping for a slightly more suspense-filled episode. This week we get to see: jet ski + fuel depot = drama and death. Interspersed with inevitable angst and passionate trysts with glamorous fire fighters -- this episode is definitely worth a watch.

Airs: 8:30pm Monday on Nine

The brilliant Doctor Who spin-off continues with its highly sexed and darkly humorous style. This week, Ianto Jones struggles to hide a terrible secret in the Torchwood building basement -- has he unleashed a force that will destroy his colleagues?

Airs: 10:20pm Monday on ABC2

Top Gear
Task for the week? Alpha Romeos for less than £2000 are to be subjected to the most intensive (and oft ridiculous test) to "calculate" the reliability of these Italian classics. Jeremy Clarkson tests the Bentley Brooklands on the track, and actor/comedians Rob Brydon and James Corden are the stars in a reasonably priced car.

Airs: 7:30pm Tuesday on Nine

Modern Family
The fantastic new comedy from ABC takes up the post-modern comedy mantle from the tragically cancelled Arrested Development. Following a family that incorporates straight, gay, multicultural and cross-generational relationships, there is certainly a lot of material to give this show a lot of comedy ground to cover.

This week, Claire organises a very special anniversary present for Phil. Meanwhile, Cameron and Mitchell have a night out with their wild friend Sal. With the news that this show has just been syndicated (sold to other networks) in the States, don't expect Modern Family to be disappearing from our screens any time soon!

Airs: 8pm Tuesday on TEN

NCIS: Los Angeles
The relentless police drama ploughs ever forward, with Callen's cover blown as he infiltrates a criminal group and is forced to cut all ties with NCIS in order to protect his colleagues as he is blackmailed by the individual behind his exposure.

Airs: 9:30pm Tuesday on TEN

Hell's Kitchen
Just when you thought Gordon Ramsay could get no louder ... for the first time in the restaurant, a wedding party is held at dinner service, but the happy couple may have made the mistake of their lives. Expect lots of expletives, smashing pans and dramatic swoops of the camera.

Airs: 10:30pm Tuesday on GO!

Pretty Woman
The completely implausible but wonderfully immersive first outing of the Richard Gere/Julia Roberts combo. Escapism at its best (if you blinker yourself to the wanton glamorisation of prostitution).

Airs: 9:15pm Wednesday on Seven

How I Met Your Mother
Currently being sold as the new Friends -- you'll have to make your own mind up. When the gang tries to convince Ted that he is being strung along by Tiffany, they reflect about relationships where each of them has been in the same situation. One of those "flash-back" episodes that Friends used to do oh-so-well.

Airs: 9pm Thursday on Seven

The Graham Norton Show
What better for a Thursday night than some multi-coloured camp Irish fun? Celebrity guests include Jason Manford and Katy Perry, although the guests are invariably irrelevant in the face of Norton's witty asides.

Airs: 9:30pm Thursday on ABC2

Ghost Whisperer
Payne reunites with his ex, Nina, where he discovers to his shock that Nina has a young son and after some speedy calculations, he deduces that the boy may actually be his son. Eek.

Airs: 8pm Friday on 7TWO

Robin Hood
Mediaeval shenanigans. Better than Russell Crowe, but not as good as Kevin Costner.

Airs: 7:30pm Saturday on ABC2

For Your Eyes Only
Was Roger Moore the best Bond? He was certainly the best Bond when it came to pretending to ski in front of a green screen.

Airs: Saturday 8:30pm on Seven
