What to watch: June 15 - 21

Desperate Housewives
This is a little tricky to talk about but by now most people know that one of the original residents from Wisteria Lane will tonight meet their demise -- however, it also depends where you live. Sydney and Brisbane viewers will catch this episode this week, while the rest of Australia has to wait one week more (blame a previous AFL match for the differences). You'll have to see for yourself how this is played out. It's a bit of a shocker.

Airs: 8:30pm Monday on Seven.

Tracey Ullman's State of the Union
With The Chaser's War on Everything suspended for one more week (returns June 24th), the ABC has decided to bring us chameleon UK comedienne Tracey Ullman. Don't forget it was her sketch show that gave birth to The Simpsons. She plays 35 different characters across the series including Renee Zellwegger, David Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Dame Helen Mirren. Not quite her best work, but has some chuckles nonetheless. Once The Chaser boys return it shifts to 9:30pm Tuesdays.

Airs: 9pm Wednesday on ABC1.

Beautiful People
If you thought Ugly Betty's Justin was camp wait till you get a load of this -- it's a British comedy about growing up as the slightly pink sheep of the family in the UK during the 1970s. And written by Jonathan Harvey (Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Beautiful Thing) he should know. Here the hero is a young Simon, who has a joyful zest for the prettier things in life along with his best friend Kyle (he even calls him "Kylie" -- guess who his idol is?). This show is like Shameless meets Hairspray.

Airs: 9:25pm Thursday on ABC2.

Being Human
And here's another little gem buried on ABC2. A vampire, werewolf and ghost all share a flat in Bristol, where they try desperately to keep their secrets from the world outside, and live "normal" lives. Of course it's an impossible task, but they manage to gather strength from one another bonding over their similar "afflictions". A mix of drama and slightly offbeat comedy, in the first episode you'll see the (female) ghost pining over her fiancée she can no longer connect with, the vampire proving a bit of a ladies man and the werewolf dreading "that time of the month". Good fun, worth a look and preceded by the first series of Torchwood if you never caught that the first time around.

Airs: 9:20pm Friday on ABC2

An Audience with the Cast of Chicago
Caroline O'Connor, Sharon Millerchip, Craig MacLachlan and Gina Riley chat about their stage musical with a celebrity audience including Antonia Kidman, Mark Trevorrow, Charlie and Amy from So You Think You Can Dance, Underbelly's Simon Westaway and musical theatre stars including Geraldine Turner (who starred in the 1981 Sydney Theatre Company production) and former Prisoner star Peta Toppano. Craig MacLachlan hosts this one hour intimate chat, including songs. Gina Riley reckons it took her ages not to slip into Kim's accent!

Airs: 7:30pm Saturday on Bio Channel.
