What to Watch: October 11 - 17

The Librarians are back!" link="/the-librarians/show/75017/summary.html" target="_blank" loc="right">

TV.com's pick of the best TV shows on Aussie screens this week.

Parenthood
It's a pretty routine episode this week, as Julia (Erika Christensen) becomes the coach of a little league baseball team, and Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina (Monica Potter) try to encourage a reluctant Max (Max Burkholder) to befriend a new playmate. But the stronger story starts when Sarah (Lauren Graham) finds Zeek's (Craig T. Nelson) cufflinks at the local pawn shop. One of the final scenes is when it pays off.

Airs: 9:30pm Tuesday on Seven

The Block
It wouldn't be The Block without couples accusing each other of cheating, and that's what we get this week after one pair lean heavily on a labourer friend to stay over and lend their skills to the competition. The show isn't quite transcending the dizzying heights of its earlier runs six and seven years ago, but if you are into renovation and reality there's still enough to hook you here.

Airs: 7:30pm Wednesday on Nine

The Librarians
New series. Great to see Frances O'Brien (Robyn Butler) and her ragtag bunch of bookworms back for their third series. It is already showing signs of confidence in this first episode when Frances is told to turn a profit at Middleton Interactive Learning Centre. But she has to deal with her cranky mother (Victoria Eagger) who is a handful this season. And Ky (Keith Brockett) is determined to have his gay wedding come rain, hail or Frances O'Brien.

Airs: 8:30pm Wednesday on ABC1

Keeping up with the Joneses
Premiere. Meet the Jones family, with dad, mum and three kids who work a Northern Territory cattle station. Family life is extraordinarily different for this clan, who tackle floods, bulls, horses, choppers and even crocodiles. Look out for Little Milton, a tearaway three-year-old without fear. A promising new factual series.

Airs: 9pm Thursday on TEN

2010 Commonwealth Games
Closing ceremony. Against all the naysayers, Delhi has turned on games that have shown us another side to the country. But at the same time it has been hard to get excited by empty venues, even though Australia has led the medal tally. Say goodbye to India with the live closing ceremony in this late night broadcast.

Airs: 12am AEDT Friday on TEN and ONE

The Simpsons
Heads up fans of The Simpsons -- there are two new episodes at an unusual Friday time slot. You'll catch Moe Szylak become a new judge on American Idol -- including guest appearances from Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres. Then standby for the first new episode of the new season as it tackles Glee in "Elementary School Musical".

Airs: 6pm Friday on TEN

Hey Hey it's Saturday
Series return. Finally back in its rightful place, Daryl Somers and the gang promise to unleash their trademark mayhem for devoted fans. Without Wednesday night competition, hopefully the show can now sit back in the saddle and do what it does best. Throw in a few top performers and you have a new variety choice on Saturdays.

Airs: 7:30pm Saturday on Nine

The Bill
Final. This is it. After 25 years of nicking crims and chasing crooks, Sun Hill Police Station finally closes its doors. During its lifetime it has featured Keira Knightley, David Tennant, Catherine Tate, James McAvoy and even Australia's own Daniel MacPherson. Next week a retrospective special will also air. British drama at its weekly best.

Airs: 8:30pm Saturday on ABC1

RocKwiz on the Road
This year Julia Zemiro, Brian Nankervis, the RocKwiz Orkestra and roadie Dugald have been travelling the country with live shows in 20 cities. Take that Spicks & Specks! Now we get to go along for the ride. This episode also gives you a backstage look at everything from rehearsals, dressing rooms, bus aisles, stages and foyers.

Airs: 9:20pm Saturday on SBS ONE

Canonisation of Mary MacKillop
Live. And now for something completely different, as ABC takes us direct to the Vatican for live coverage of the canonisation of Mary MacKillop, Australia's first saint, by Pope Benedict. The news special will also include live crosses to correspondents in Rome, as well as celebrations at St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney; Mary MacKillop Chapel, North Sydney; plus sites in Penola, South Australia; the Exhibition Centre, Melbourne; and St Francis Xavier's Cathedral, Adelaide.

Airs: 6pm Sunday on ABC News 24

Sherlock
Premiere. If you love BBC dramas like Sherlock and Jekyll then don't miss this bold, contemporary take on the legend of Sherlock Holmes. Strikingly played by actor Benedict Cumberbatch, assisted by Martin Freeman as Dr John Watson, the mystery involves a series of similar suicides. But the real interest here is the unique take and the dazzling performances and a script by Doctor Who's Steven Moffat. Continues Monday night

Airs: 8:30pm Sunday on Nine

Bones
New series. One of TV's most fun couples return with their sixth season. But it is now months since we saw Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) head off in different directions. If you think we're going to spoil the fun on how things turned out, think again. Suffice to say there is another anthropological case that needs solving. Duh.

Airs: 9pm Sunday on Seven
