What to watch on Monday, January 21...

LIVE, 11:30am Eastern, Multiple Networks
The 57th Quadrennial Presidential Inauguration
President Barack Obama is sworn in for his second term of office in a ceremony bearing the theme “Faith in America’s Future.” Vice President Joe Biden is also sworn in, most likely after running up and down the aisles and high-fiving everyone in the crowd like a contestant on The Price is Right. (Note: 11:30am Eastern is the official start time for the ceremony, but coverage may begin as early as 7am depending on the channel; please check your local listings.)

8pm, CBS
How I Met Your Mother
Robin succumbs to the captivating hold of wearing an engagement ring, and Vegas has set the over/under on “number of Gollum and/or Frodo jokes” in “Ring Up” at 2.5. Meanwhile, Barney is vicariously enthused when Ted begins dating a much younger woman.

8pm, ABC Family
Switched at Birth
Tensions are rising between Carlton’s hearing and deaf students, so Melody arranges a tolerance retreat to smooth out the issues. Elsewhere in “Duel of Two Women,” Kathryn makes a faux pas on the radio, and Regina receives worrying health news.

8pm, Fox
When you title your episode “The Corpse on the Canopy,” there are at least two things you had damn well better deliver on. Both corpse and canopy bed are present—in Hodgins and Angela’s bedroom, no less, prompting the team to surmise that Christopher Pelant is sending a message that he’s back for revenge.

The Following
Fox boosts the stock prices of manufacturers of grisly makeup and fake human viscera with this psychological thriller from Kevin Williamson (Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries). Kevin Bacon stars as a former fed lured out of retirement by the return of his old nemesis, a serial killer whose heinous crimes have inspired a slew of acolytes to continue his work. The homicidal cult leader is played by James Purefoy, so it’s likely he masticates his victims to death while devouring every inch of scenery in the vicinity.

Upon learning that Ashley was falsely posing as his bodyguard, Annie and Vanessa go in search of Liam in “Misery Loves Company.” Also missing: Adrianna’s wedding ring, pilfered during her road trip with Naomi.

9pm, CBS
2 Broke Girls
The diner staff pulls an all-nighter to help Max and Caroline fill a humongous cupcake order in “And Too Little Sleep.” The episode summary doesn’t mention exactly how humongous this order is, but considering all the promotion CBS is throwing behind the Super Bowl, I wouldn’t put it past Les Moonves to order 72,000 cupcakes for everyone at the Superdome next month.

10pm, ABC
“Death Gone Crazy” finds Castle and Beckett investigating the murder of a Joe Francis-esuqe purveyor of amateur smut. On the homefront, Castle is concerned when Alexis starts a video blog that’s none too private. These kids today, with their vlogging and their Twittering and their hackneyed joke constructions in daily web articles, am I right?!
