What to Watch Tonight: Awake, 30 Rock, and American Idol

What to watch on Thursday, March 1...

Life continues to feel empty and meaningless with The CW in reruns, but perhaps we just need to fake it 'til we make it. And by fake it I mean genuinely enjoy these perfectly good TV shows:

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, NBC
Awake
It's a procedural. It's a drama. It's a procedural. It's a drama. It's both! Awake is a new NBC series in which a detective awakens each morning to find that either his wife is alive and son is dead or it's the other way around. Regardless of which devastating scenario he experiences, he still reports to work and solves tons of crimes. And in case you're on the fence about whether to watch it or not, Tim says you definitely should.

8pm, NBC
30 Rock
Tonight Frank enlists Liz to help him fake a romance in order to keep his mom from finding out who he's really dating. Elsewhere, Tracy and Jenna team up to find Pete's whiskey, and Jack tutors Kenneth in the fine art of taking down a business nemesis. Basically it's an educational episode all around.

8pm, Fox
American Idol
Both the boys and girls performed earlier in the week, so tonight we'll learn who America decided should be the finalists. Plus the judges just might add a few wild-card choices to the final group. R.I.P. democracy!

9pm, NBC
The Office
The cast remains split between states, and tonight the Florida group puts the finishing touches on the brand-new Sabre store. Meanwhile back in Scranton, Andy arrives at work with an embarrassing injury. Michael Scott, call your lawyers.

10pm, FX
Archer
Hooray for cartoon nudity! Archer once again gets himself into trouble after a hookup gone bad, but apparently this time his indiscretions will have a more serious result than usual. Oh, Archer.

I've saved last night's White Collar finale for tonight's very much lacking lineup. Will maybe check out Awake, if I can get over the devastation of no more Matt Bomer until next season. Also, Joan Rivers and Nicki Minaj on JKL. Brilliant.
