What to watch on Monday, March 18...
SEASON 16 PREMIERE, 8pm, ABC
Dancing With the Stars
The two-hour premiere introduces new dance partners, new dance styles (contemporary and jazz), and new "celebs" vying to cut the best proverbial rug. Contestants include Dorothy Hamill, D.L. Hughley, Wynonna Judd, Victor Ortiz, and no-longer-a-Bachelor Sean Lowe.
The death of a Marine sergeant who was fixated on the apocalypse leads the team to a band of doomsday preppers in “The Doom in the Gloom.” Honestly, ever since the Watchers’ Council got blowed up, the armageddon aversion milieu has become SO déclassé. Elsewhere, Brennan and Booth are skeptical that Sweets will actually vacate their premises even after he finds a sweet new apartment.
SEASON 1 FINALE, 8pm, Syfy
Can Kiera thwart an impending terrorist attack, or will “Endtimes” live up to its title? Meanwhile, Alec learns that his stepbrother Julian is in thrall to Liber8, placing them both in danger.
Aidan struggles with memories of his family while on a date with Kat, and zombie-fated Stevie asks Sally to do a pal a solid and kill him dead. I’ll level with you: Roughly 65 percent of the reason “For Those About to Rot” makes the cut this week is so it can be eligible for Episode Title of the Week.
SEASON 1 FINALE, 10pm, NBC
And yep, “I’ll Start With the Hillbilly” is on today’s list for exactly the same reason. Edward grapples with both a difficult decision about his wife and a thirst for revenge, while the case of Vivian’s murder is reopened when new information comes to light.
SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, A&E
Vera Farmiga plays the entrepreneurial Norma Louise Bates, new proprietress of a cozy motor lodge in the American Southwest, and Freddie Highmore is her dutiful son Norman in this wholesome, slice-of-life look at the importance of family togetherness and the challenges of succeeding in the hospitality industry. [Ed. note: Read Tim's preview here, and keep an eye out for Noel's full review later tonight!]
Did an allegedly haunted DVD invite the death of a young woman three days after she watched it? Is Castle’s own fate similarly sealed after he too sets eyes upon the cursed disc? Might a special cameo by Wes Craven hold the key to the mystery? Is the fatally fearsome footage available via streaming anywhere? Some of these questions and more may be answered in “Scared to Death.”
You might think that sending Catherine undercover in the fast-paced, rough-and-tumble world of roller derby would be more than enough material for “Na Ki’i” to run with. You might think adding guest appearances by the likes of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman” and Beth “Mrs. Dog” Chapman would be overkill. If so, you would clearly not be metal enough to handle “Na Ki’i.”
