What to Watch Tonight: Cougar Town's Season Finale, Workaholics, and The Catalina

What to watch on Tuesday, May 29...

Ooooh-weee, that is quite a sunburn—you musta done your long weekend up right! We're not sure what's going to hurt more, those blisters or the realization that the summer TV season is officially here. Oh well, crack a bottle of aloe, crank the AC, and let's find out:

SEASON 3 FINALE, 8pm, ABC
Cougar Town
Whoops, someone forgot to tell Cougar Town that it's frowned-upon to air a season finale after Memorial Day! In tonight's hour-long episode, the gang drinks a lot. (And also Grayson and Jules elope.) See you next year on TBS, kids!

SERIES PREMIERE, 8pm, CW
The Catalina
The CW's newest horrible reality show follows the "young, wild staff" of a Miami hotel "as they manage their relationships with each other while working hard to create a fun, exciting experience for the guests." Sounds kind of like when the Saved by the Bell kids worked at that country club all summer except way, way trashier.

SEASON 1 FINALE, 9pm, CW
The L.A. Complex
In with one awful CW show, out with another: The L.A. Complex wraps things up tonight with basically every character still confused about what's next (hint: probably not a second season, you guys).

SEASON 7 PREMIERE, 9pm, HGTV
HGTV Design Star
Season 7 brings us another group of twelve interior designers raring to bicker with each other while shopping for throw pillows. The always delightful Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder preside.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE, 10:30pm, Comedy Central
Workaholics
Comedy Central's loveable trio of misfits with dramatically different hairstyles returns tonight to find the guys planning to drop acid—but then Ders spoils everything when he explains he can't partake because he has to go on a business trip.

Civilization: The West and the Rest With Niall Ferguson, 8 p.m., PBS
Deadliest Catch, 8 p.m., Discovery
The Real Housewives of Orange County, 8 p.m., Bravo

Cougar Town is a great show. Can't wait for next season. The LA Complex is actually a really decent show and is definitely not awful. I watched the first 6 episodes(and I think only episodes) from Canada and they were well made but perhaps the show is failing because it's not something original ... Melrose place

Not much on when Workaholics gets top billing.

Reruns of whatever - it's that time of the year when nothing's worth watching until True Blood, Alphas, Suits, Burn Notice, White Collar... get back...

"Sounds kind of like when the Saved by the Bell kids worked at that country club all summer except way, way trashier."

Yeah, and I bet none of the Catalina staff can wrap leftovers inside a foil swan, either.

But maybe just maybe we'll all get really lucky and they'll have a sand volleyball tournament.

I actually might check out The Queen's Jubilee special....I am a sucker for British royalty shows and interviews.

Like most nights, the NBA as well.

Do you guys even know what you're writing, it's either what-to-watch or it's horrible, can't be both, unless you have something wrong in your head.

Also, The L.A. Complex has already been renewed for a 13 episode second season.

It probably would be more accurately put as 'What is new and you may want to watch (or not)'.... but that's not as catchy...
Reply
Flag
It can TOTALLY be both, in a "can't look away from the traffic accident, even though I know I should" way. Sometimes "horrible" makes for the best tv.

If you're calling that a season, then yes. definitely there is a second one. They are making more episodes right now, though it still won't be a full 22 between them.

Cougar Town.

Also, I have some experience in watching seriously messed up horror/gore movies (mostly Japanese, obviously), so I will give The Catalina a try. But I admit, it might be so terrifying I'll gouge my eyes out.
Reply
Flag
NOOOO! Don't gouge your eye's out until after you seen the final season of Fringe
Reply
Flag
You're absolutely right. What was I thinking? New rule in life: If any damage needs to be done to one's eyes, the deed must be carried out only after Fringe has ended. I don't think I could settle for listening to Fringe in the form of an audio book, even if read by Lance Reddick.

I will do my best to direct any repulsion caused by The Catalina into vomiting in my mouth and/or banging my head against the wall.
