What to watch on Thursday, January 24...
SERIES FINALE, 8pm, ABC
Given that Last Resort's cancellation notice arrived several weeks ago, Shawn Ryan and his creative team have likely had time to make sure the action-drama wraps up its one and only season with a sense of closure. “Controlled Flight Into Terrain” finds Chaplin and Kendall working to prevent the Colorado from being captured by a sinister foe.
Liz rallies the TGS gang in a last-ditch effort to avoid cancellation in “A Goon’s Deed in a Weary World.” And everybody knows there’s no more hard-working or reliable bunch to come through in the clutch than... um... yeah, they’re kaput. I give them one more week, tops.
8pm, The CW
The Vampire Diaries
Damon prepares Jeremy to tackle the Vampire Danger Room he and Klaus have set up to train the young hunter, and given Jeremy’s arc this season, those preparations will probably involve shirtlessness and repeated practice of proper staking form. Hang on. Okay. Sorry, got sidetracked for a second there. Anyway, “Catch Me If You Can” also finds Matt’s life in jeopardy and Shane being questioned about the demise of the Founders’ Council.
“Sadie Hawkins” introduces McKinley High to the mildly anachronistic girls-ask-the-guys-to-the-dance tradition, courtesy of the ladies of New Directions. Sam’s focus isn’t on dancing, but on proving that the Warblers cheated at Sectionals. At NYADA, Kurt seeks a way to fit in.
Seattle Grace’s newest doctor rattles the staff, and when you’re used to life in a Shonda Rhimes-controlled universe, it takes an awful lot to rattle you. Elsewhere in “Walking on a Dream,” Arizona struggles with phantom limb, and an on-edge Meredith faces her greatest fear.
SEASON 11 PREMIERE, 9pm, Lifetime
Sixteen plucky young designers touch down in the Big Apple, and the city provides their first source of fashion inspiration as a new competition commences. The twist this season: The contestants will be working in teams all the way through. Christian Siriano is the guest judge.
There’s no rest for the battle-weary in “Blood in the Water.” Fresh off the struggle with Daniel, Harvey faces off against a bitter rival with personal as well as professional motives.
Dashing, acerbic FX leading man Sterling Archer teaming up with dashing, acerbic FX leading man Timothy Olyphant? Oh, “The Wind Cries Mary,” you already have all the ingredients for a classic half-hour of TV in the making. Now, let’s see what we can do about getting Krieger and Charlie Day in the same room together, shall we?
