What to watch on Tuesday, January 21...

8pm, The CW
The Originals
In “Après Moi, le Déluge,” a severe illness takes its toll on Davina—and on the whole French Quarter. The only thing making Hayley sick is guilt, driving her to confess her part in Sophie’s scheme to Elijah.

8pm, ABC Family
Pretty Little Liars
“Close Encounters” finds Shana claiming to carry news from Ali, along with a request to rendezvous with Emily. But could the mysterious missives be mere bait for another of A’s plots?

8:30pm, Fox
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
“The Ebony Falcon” sends Terry back into the field, with Jake helping the sergeant learn to keep his emotions in check. Elsewhere, Amy and Rosa are on the case when one of the Nine-Nine’s own is the victim of a crime.

9pm, Fox
New Girl
Throwing Jess a fantastic bash in “Birthday” requires the sort of focus, hustle, and organizational acumen that only Nick Miller can bring to the table. In less festive pursuits, Winston and Coach compete in the kitchen while Schmidt helps Cece get comfortable behind the bar.

9pm, Discovery
Klondike
In part two of three, the scarcity of the winter may lay the miners low—if the killer on the loose doesn’t get them first. In other threats, Dawson battles a typhus infection and Belinda betrays Bill.

9pm, The CW
Supernatural
Dean and Crowley saddle up for buddy-comedy hijinx in “First Born” as they search for the First Blade, the only weapon capable of deep-sixing Abbadon. Of course, prying the blade away from its possessor, Cain (Timothy Omundson), is another problem altogether.

9pm, ABC Family
Ravenswood
Remy seeks professional help for her restless slumber in “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,” but the results are more than she bargained for. In the waking world, Olivia grows suspicious of Springer and Mr. Price drops a big ol’ lump of Ravenswood mythology on Caleb.

9pm, ABC
The Goldbergs
Adam and Dana plan to take in their first school dance, which sends both of their moms into dangerously high levels of momming overdrive. Meanwhile in “You Opened the Door,” Murray’s attempt to teach Barry about sex takes a few wrong turns.

9:30pm, ABC
Trophy Wife
Oh, sure, when Bert loses a tooth it’s natural and adorable, but when Pete subsequently loses that same tooth, Jackie throws a fit. Will “The Tooth Fairy” come to the rescue? Elsewhere, Kate gives Warren some pointers on his first study date while Diane’s attempt to steer Hillary through a big sleepover is exactly as mortifying as you’d expect.

MID-SEASON FINALE, 9:30pm, Fox
The Mindy Project
“The Desert” of this episode’s title presents a potent metaphor for Mindy’s sense of isolation and loss after Cliff dumps her for dishonesty. Wait, no, it’s the literal desert, where Danny schleps her on a visit to his dad. Maybe it’s one of those “two-levels” things.

10pm, NBC
Chicago Fire
When a neighborhood power outage compounds the danger of a Windy City deep freeze, the firefighters must temporarily ally with their natural enemy: heat. As Firehouse 51 comes to community’s aid in “Tonight’s the Night,” Casey continues to dissemble and the future of Molly’s is hotly debated.

10pm, TBS
Cougar Town
“Depending on You” puts Jules and Grayson in a sticky spot when they’re invited to a wedding that conflicts with Grayson’s roller hockey championship. Around the cul-de-sac, Bobby learns that Dog Travis is a proud papa pooch, and the gang discovers Tom’s troublesome hobby.

10pm, FX
Justified
“Good Intentions” paves Boyd’s road to you-know-where as he moves to reclaim Harlan’s heroin market. Meanwhile, Raylan lives high on the hog in Charles Monroe’s freshly seized manison.

10pm, BET
Being Mary Jane
Mary Jane’s dalliance comes to light in “The Huxtables Have Fallen.” This is what it sounds like when Cosby sweaters cry.

SEASON 20 PREMIERE, 10pm, HBO
Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel
Topics include pot use among NFL players, the evolution of professional bull riding, a spotlight of Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, and a discussion between Frank Deford and Boomer Esiason about raising children with cystic fibrosis.

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, Syfy
Opposite Worlds
This reality competition divides 14 competitors into two halves of the same house—one decked out with the snazziest future tech conceivable, the other a throwback to the distant past—with a glass wall as the partition. Throughout the course of the challenges, viewers are invited to influence the outcomes and decide players’ fates via Twitter.

SERIES PREMIERE, 11pm, MTV
Are You the One?
MTV borrows the Machine from Person of Interest, crunches the numbers to identify 10 ideal romantic couplings, and then throws the 20 subjects into a house together to see if they can locate their mathematically selected mate.
