What to Watch Tonight: Misfits, Project Runway, Sullivan & Son, and Louie

What to watch on Thursday, July 19...

Who's feeling THIRSTY?! Because it's Thursday, get it? And boy, do I love Thursdays. Next to Sundays, it's the one night during the summer when TV actually has more than three scripted television shows to offer. Reality reigns supreme in the summertime—but that's kind of ironic, right? Because the last thing I want to deal with on a warm summer day is reality. Take me to places with cucumber-flavored waterfalls and meadows that grow cotton candy and s'mores! Anyway, here's what's on the docket tonight:

SEASON FINALE, 8pm, ABC
Duets
As Breaking Bad's Jesse would say, "O-M-G, it's the freakin' finale, yo!" For some reason I picture Jesse being a HUGE Duets fan. But yes, the finale is tonight and it's down to three competitors: Jason Farol (partnered with Kelly Clarkson), John Glosson (partnered with Jennifer Nettles), and J Rome (also partnered with Jennifer Nettles). Who will sing their way to ABC victory?!

SEASON 4 PREMIERE, 9pm, TLC
Four Weddings
That this show actually allows brides to rate each other's weddings feels inherently dangerous. It's totally backwards to me because it condones passing judgment on others when what we're truly judging them on is what makes them happy. Should it really matter what makes one person happy over another? That said, it is way fun to peruse four different wedding styles in one episode! And that, I think, is really why this show has become as popular as it is. Tonight's premiere will take place in Dallas, Texas, where a nurse, stationary designer, cowgirl, and artist are all planning on tying the knot. And all want to take home the prize for best wedding at the end of the day. My money is on the stationary designer. Doesn't she do weddings for a living?

SEASON 10 PREMIERE, 9pm, Lifetime
Project Runway
It's baaaack! Sixteen new designer hopefuls will arrive in New York City tonight, where they'll not only have to acclimate to seeing Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn every day, but also deal with the high-pressure environment that defines this series. Who will impress us with their creative talents and who will run home with their tulle between their legs?

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, TBS
Sullivan & Son
If you haven't heard of Steve Byrne yet, you will tonight. This comedian has been rising in popularity since Comedy Central aired his first hour-long standup special in 2008. Sullivan & Son—which stars Bryne as Steve Sullivan, a New York attorney who decides to return to the bar his dad owns in Pittsburgh and take it over before his pops retires—is loosely based on Byrne's own life... in that his father is Irish and his mother is Korean, as are Sullivan's parents in the series. I'm digging that it already seems to offer something different than the standard family sitcom, but the real reason I'm tuning in? Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) plays his dad! I wonder if he'll be as much of a hard-ass to Steve as he was to Kevin...

U.S. PREMIERE, 10pm, Logo
Misfits
You know how Heroes was sorta good for a bit but then it stopped being good? Well imagine if it continued being good, it wasn't fluffy, and it had a wicked British accent. Misfits, about some troubled kids who get superpowers during a freak electrical storm, has been a big hit in the U.K. for years, but it's only making its domestic debut tonight. It's good.

10:30pm, FX
Louie
In "Daddy's Girlfriend (Part 1)," Louie embarks on a quest for love that will extend for at least two episodes. That's really all we know about it. But considering that this is one of the most unpredictable, brutally honest, and unapologetic comedies on television right now, I can only assume it's going to be outstanding.

I have to say Russell Brand's show has gotten immensely better from the first one.

Burn Notice, Rookie Blue, Suits, Wilfred, Saving Hope (which I'll probably drop after this season - assuming it's even renewed). I'll marathon Sullivan & Son if it's renewed for a 2nd season.

I didn't know Misfits was brought to US, yay. But watch a few eps on Hulu before deciding if your young children can watch - it can get rather "adult" at times.

I thought "Thirsty Thursdays" was just a Wisconsin thing :-) But I suppose that was a little naive of me. Anyways, tonight I will be watching Rookie Blue.

Um, hello, first Big Brother evictions?!?

Anyway, in completely unsurprising news for anyone who's seen the endless commercials on TBS, reviews for Sullivan and Son are tepid at best.

Wilfred and Wipeout. I would watch Misfits *if* Viacom and DirecTV would come to an agreement. It obviously doesn't have the horrible tragedy level of the BP oil leak but it's starting to get the "when will this ever end" question. Days? Weeks? Months?

Misfits was on Hulu a few months back. I don't know if it's there.
