What to watch on Tuesday, March 19...
SERIES PREMIERE, 8pm, ABC
And thus did 2012–13 become the season when network TV brought you multiple primetime celebrity diving competitions. Five contestants, mentored and judged by professional divers including Greg Louganis, will vie to see who can form the tidiest tuck, the precisest pike, and the canniest cannonball.
8pm, The CW
Target Presents the iHeartRadio Album Release Party with Justin Timberlake
Fittingly, that title about equals the average length of the songs on JT’s new record, “The 20/20 Experience.” Join him (and presumably an assload of brand management execs) for a concert at L.A.’s El Rey theater and a conversation about his first new release in seven years.
Inside the Actors Studio: Tina Fey
If you’re still struggling through 30 Rock withdrawal, host James Lipton would like to offer you a dose of methadone in the form of tonight’s sit-down with Tina Fey. And if we’re really lucky, "James Lipton" will turn out to actually be Amy Poehler in a James Lipton mask.
SEASON 3 FINALE, 8pm, ABC Family
Pretty Little Liars
The third season concludes with Spencer returning home and facing her friends’ skepticism over her alleged recovery. In other developments, the gang tries to determine whether Malcolm possesses vital information about Mona, while spellcheckers everywhere shake their fists at the title “A dAngerous gAme.”
SNEAK PEEK, 9pm, ABC Family
Catch an advance airing of the pilot of this new summer mystery series following a charming but trouble-prone teen’s return home from juvie. On the plus side, he gets reacquainted with two of his oldest, closest friends. On the minus side, he immediately becomes the chief focus of an investigation into the death of a classmate. What’s that they say about life and a box of chocolates?
NCIS: Los Angeles
“Red: Part One” is, as astute readers might surmise, the first half of a two-parter in which the team investigates an Idaho murder linked to a national security case in L.A. In the process, they connect with NCIS: Red, an elite mobile unit of agents who live together as they travel from place to place, solving crimes and writing wrongs and possibly performing bubblegum pop as an upbeat family band. And I’ll bet the adventures of Kim Raver, John Corbett, and company are thrilling enough to fill out their own spinoff series!
While good and addled by painkillers, Jess spills her true feelings about Nick... which are immediately complicated by the revelation that Nick may have a secret of his own. Elsewhere in “Quick Hardening Caulk,” Winston grows concerned over Schmidt’s obsession with buying a fish. In Schmidt’s defense, I can understand his enthusiasm if we’re talking about the fish that saved Pittsburgh.
In “Decoy,” Raylan and the Marshals must spirit Drew Thompson out of Harlan without getting dead. Complicating that plan, as always: Boyd, working in concert with Nicky Augustine and the Detroit mob. Art mostly hopes they make it home in time for Duck Dynasty, because he’s pretty sure he forgot to set the DVR.
