What to watch on Tuesday, August 13...
8pm, ABC Family
Pretty Little Liars
Motel-dwelling Emily gets an offer from Mrs. DiLaurentis to relocate into Ali’s old room, while Hanna reacts poorly to a sudden reversal of her mother’s good fortune in “The Mirror Has Three Faces.” Elsewhere, Ezra is walloped by another bad turn for his son, Aria tries to appreciate Jake’s hobbies, and A keeps on jerking around a distraught Toby.
8pm, The CW
Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Comedian Heather Anne Campbell joins the shenanigans, while WNBA star Lisa Leslie gives Ryan Stiles the rare chance to make eye contact with someone without getting a crick in his neck.
SEASON 5 PREMIERE, 9pm, Syfy
Eight newcomers and eight former contestants fill out the Season 5 roster. In the first Foundation challenge in “Going for Gold,” they must put the finishing touches on the attendees of an costume gala, featuring the altered-appearance aficionados of Heroes of Cosplay (which makes its series debut at 10:30pm).
SEASON 3 PREMIERE/SERIES PREMIERE, 9pm & 10pm, National Geographic
Doomsday Preppers/Doomsday Castle
“Don’t Betray the Colony” advocate both the season premiere and the nutjob-in-chief of a collective of preppers whose commitment to post-apocalypse law-and-order has inspired them to build a working gallows. Then at 10pm, brand extension Doomsday Castle ups the ante with a man building a medieval-style citadel in the Carolina Mountains to ride out the aftermath of an EMP strike.
Who Do You Think You Are?
Zooey Deschanel traces her roots to Pennsylvania Quaker Country. Now all I can wonder is: Did Emily decline to join, or did nobody at the show think to call her and land a rare TV-star-twofer?
Rizzoli & Isles
A youth hockey league is at the center of the murder in “Cold as Ice,” and Frankie Jr. is enlisted to lend a hand. On the homefront, Cailin grows irritated with Hope and seeks refuge at Maura’s place.
“Here Comes Your Man” finds Annie undercover in Vienna—and totally incommunicado with Auggie. Perhaps she can slip him some coded messages in her Instagrams of Schnitzel? Back in the States, Joan and Arthur call in reinforcements.
I was THIS close to bumping Perception from a busy Tuesday lineup. Then the logline mentioned Judd Hirsch as a hallucination of Sigmund Freud who helps Pierce investigate a psych ward, and how can I not include that? You win this round, “Asylum.”
Harvey and Stephen team up for Ava’s defense in “Shadow of a Doubt,” while Mike seeks Rachel’s assistance on a case that could expose his secret to her parents. Hey, speaking of Rachel’s parents: How come, if Mike is as big a fan of The Wire as last week’s episode suggested, he never noticed that his girlfriend’s father is the spitting image of the Bunk? Riddle me that, Suits.
10pm, Comedy Central
Ralph Nader takes on General Motors, and the friendship between Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle curdles into hostility in these moonshine-muddled missives from the Motor City. Owen Wilson, Alfred Molina, and Jason Schwartzman are among the players.
SERIES PREMIERE, 10:30pm, Syfy
Heroes of Cosplay
A six-episode docu-series on cosplay culture begins with the debut of Wizard World in Portland, OR. Veteran costume crafters and up-and-comers alike shed light on their colorful—and often competitive—world.
