What to Watch Tonight: Supernatural's Season 8 Premiere, South Park, and the First Presidential Debate

What to watch on Wednesday, October 3rd...

You might want to don some protective gear before partaking in tonight's TV lineup. May I suggest a helmet if you're planning to watch the first presidential debate? Heavy boots for the finale of American Hoggers? Night goggles to the premiere of Supernatural? Or, we can just simplify things and watch television like normal folks. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to duck back underneath my desk and finish my iron cloak while I eat bananas and peanut butter.

SEASON 8 PREMIERE, 9pm, The CW
Supernatural
Welcome to Wednesdays, Supernatural! In tonight's Season 8 premiere, "We Need to Talk About Kevin," the Winchester Bros reunite after spending a year apart, with Dean returning from Purgatory and and Sam struggling to give up the new life he started while Dean was away. Bonus: The episode was written by new showrunner Jeremy Carver.

LIVE, 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CNN, MSNBC, C-SPAN, PBS
The First Presidential Debate
With the election just around the corner, President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney will participate in three debates, starting tonight. Tonight's event will moderated by Jim Lehrer, host of PBS's NewsHour, and will focus on domestic policy. Here's what the live schedule looks like for the next three debates:

Thursday, October 11: LIVE 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific — Vice presidential debate: Vice President Joe Biden vs. Rep. Paul Ryan
Topic: Foreign and domestic topics
Moderator: Martha Raddatz, ABC Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent

Tuesday, October 16: LIVE 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific — Second presidential debate: President Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney

Monday, October 22: LIVE 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific — Third presidential debate: President Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney
Topic: Foreign policy
Moderator: Bob Schieffer, Chief Washington Correspondent and moderator of CBS's Face the Nation

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, Bravo
Life After Top Chef
Ever wonder what happens to Top Chef chef'testants once they leave the show (assuming SyFy doesn't give them dumb cooking shows)? In this new reality series, Bravo will answer the "where are they now?" question for Richard Blais in Atlanta, Jen Carroll in Philadelphia, Spike Mendelsohn in Washington, D.C., and Fabio Viviani in Los Angeles. It's kind of like that documentary Babies, except with grumpy, tattooed adults who happen to be excellent cooks!

10pm, Comedy Central
South Park
Get ready, tonight the kiddos take on TLC's Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. In "Raising the Bar," Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson and her mama June visit South Park in hopes of finding a pig with a sassy heart. Because... why not?

SEASON FINALE, 10:30pm, ABC
American Hoggers
The A & E reality show will air two new episodes tonight, the second of which is the season finale. In "The End Is Near," Jerry puts everything on the line when he challenges his nemesis Ronnie Creek in a winner-take-all competition; in "Pistol Whipped," Krystal uses all of her hog-catching know-how in a desperate plan to save the family biz.

So... there's literally nothing good to watch on Wednesdays this year. Move some stuff over from Thursday, like Last Resort, Elementary, or something.

Arrow & American Horror Story are coming soon... as well as the ABC comedies, I believe.

It certainly takes up more of my schedule than Monday/Tuesday will, in a few weeks.

Well, i guess i missed the memo that said Supernatural was moving to Wednesday's. Were ratings really that low on Friday's?
Reply
Flag
By CW standards, they were pretty good. I'd say probably the third highest rated show on the network even though it was on Fridays. DVR numbers were massive as well. The new President wants to take the show back to its former glory thereby roping in more male and adult viewers for the network. Arrow and Supernatural make on hell of a combo.

Oh yeah, right. I'm not American so I forgot that your TV schedules are affected by the election circus.

It's the best new reality competition. Gets renewed every 4 years.

"The Election" this season only on NBC (and all other channels)! Intrigue, scandal, never seen before footage! Four contestants, two teams. Who will win? Red? Blue? You decide!

Ya know, they might have a better voter turnout it we could do it by text, SYTYCD-style.
