What to Watch Tonight: The Glass House, Teen Wolf, and Nick at Nite's Hollywood Heights

What to watch on Monday, June 18...

What caffeine is to your brain, television is to... your brain? I should probably work on that analogy some more, but you know what I mean: TV is invigorating! Hopefully. Sometimes. I don't know. Scrap that, this whole introduction has been a disaster so far. Typical Monday! Maybe I'll comfort myself by watching this stuff:

8pm, ABC
The Bachelorette
Tonight Emily and her eight lovers immigrate to Croatia where they'll gallivant around amongst ancient architecture and each others' hearts! Oh, and a screening of Pixar's Brave happens at some point because fine, why not? Then Emily will eject one or more of her lovers into the Adriatic Sea.

9pm, NBC
American Ninja Warrior
All the nimblest monkeymen of the American Mid South region will gather tonight to determine which 15 of them will proceed to the finals at Mt. Midoriyama (Las Vegas edition). Will it be the buff nerd with the sad background or will it be the former athlete with the heartwarming background? Tune in to find out!

SERIES PREMIERE, 9pm, Nickelodeon
Hollywood Heights
You may have noticed this show is premiering on a WEEK NIGHT, which means it's actually a Nick at Nite show, not a Nickelodeon show. Hollywood Heights, from the look of things, seems to be a warning shot fired directly at ABC Family: "We can do cheesy adult-ish drama also!" Anyway, this particular nighttime soap concerns two friends, Loren and Melissa, who sneak into a handsome rock star's concert and get embroiled in some larger-than-life Hollywood shenanigans. Or whatever. Everyone's attractive and there's drama. What else do you require?

10pm, MTV
Teen Wolf
"Abomination" finds the kids increasingly worried about the reptilian creature that's been killing folks, so Scott attempts to get Allison to put her family's knowledge base to good use. Meanwhile new werewolf Boyd joins lacrosse (obviously) and we'll hopefully learn much more about what's up with that creepy veterinarian!

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, ABC
The Glass House
It's a go! After a few weeks of intense legal drama between ABC and CBS (the latter of which believes this show is a rip-off of its own Big Brother), The Glass House premieres tonight and we'll finally get to see just how similar the two shows are. The premise is this: While being filmed around the clock, seven teams of two will be tasked with solving a puzzle and the losers will be on the viewer-influenced chopping block. But what do they LOOK LIKE, you ask? A lot like this, but, you know, often in more jacuzzi-appropriate attire.

Teen Wolf, and Outlaw Empires are the only things worth watching tonight. I would've watched Lost Girl, but I only ever saw the first 2 or 3 episodes of season 1.

Price, that intro enjoyed a lot of crack, didn't it? A lot of smokable, delicious crack.

I'll be watching Eureka, and maybe Gordo get disproportionately angry at people cooking food for a couple hours, then Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Unfortunately, Top Gear UK is "new to America" but it's actually 9 years old and I believe was indeed aired in the US as the original Top Gear US ported over here (they filmed extra add-ons stating US data for the cars, it aired on Discovery or something, I think). I watched last week's about 20 minutes through before I realized I had already seen it.

I'll probably check out Glass House, although it's on the same time as Eureka. The cast looks like the same sort of group they pick for Big Brother. Glass House even has a live stream, but it's only for specific times, not 24 hours, so there's room to control what America sees. I don't think it's going to have the interesting stuff that BB gets.

Summer Mondays are the best because of Teen Wolf. What a sweet surprise that show's been. Despite being a supernatural teenage drama, it's a fantastic example of how to do plotting, tension, and character development extremely well. Gyah!

Teen Wolf is a great show. The fact that it's on MTV is what makes people think it's just another Twilight thing. But, it's not.

I know! I'll admit that I was one of those "oh, it's MTV so it must suck" skeptics for a looooong time. When I found out Price was recapping it, I gave it a go and was hooked. I'm not a teenager, but I've always thought that teenage shows (particularly ones that utilize the supernatural, for whatever reason) can be just as compelling as shows considered more "standard" greats--like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, etc--but get a bad rep for no reason. Teen Wolf has fantastic characterization (they all have great depth and very well-drawn motivations), breakneck pace (has there even BEEN a filler episode? I don't think so), and manages to create tension with some stunning visuals (the decapitated angel in the graveyard, Jackson's floor littered with black and bloody tissues). This show has really shined, and everyone needs to watch it.

Plus, the relationships are well done--even Scott and Allison's has become less sappy (not that it was super sappy to begin with, really) and seems more "normal" (considering their circumstances).

A+ stuff!

It's the only show I watch on MTV. I only watched it because I had watched Tyler Posey (Scott) on "Doc" and in the movie, "Maid in Manhattan". I'm happy I checked it out.

Man, I'd hate to be on any opposing Lacrosse team going up against BHHS. Three Werewolves and one Jackson! You're basically screwed unless you have a Reptile Monster on your squad.
