What to watch on Wednesday, September 7...

Rescue Me

As far as the TV schedule is concerned, this week's pretty much just the quiet before the storm. Hear that? Crickets. Bored crickets. Hurry, new fall season, hurry!

SERIES FINALE, 10pm, FX
Rescue Me
It's been a long, hard haul for the men of the 62 Truck, one full of infidelities, wedding fires, 9/11—stuff like that. But tonight it all comes to an end when Rescue Me finishes its seventh and final season at the Fire Academy, where a new batch of youngsters will hear a familiar speech from a new leader. "Fire is VERY hot, you guys," he'll say.

10pm, USA
Necessary Roughness
Dani tries to keep a stiff upper lip when her one-year divorce anniversary rolls around, plus T.K. tries to solve his love-life problems. Ugh, sports!

10pm, BBC America
The Hour
In tonight's episode of this widely praised BBC news drama, Freddie neglects his birthday to continue pursuing the "brightstone" mystery, meanwhile the team reports on the Suez crisis and Hector demonstrates that he's more than competent behind the anchor desk. (He doesn't say "blimey" or drop the C-bomb even ONCE on the air.)

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, E!
Pawn 90210
According to this show and also the History Channel's Pawn Stars, pawn shops apparently still exist. The twist with this new E! version is that it's set in Beverly Hills, so the items up for grabs are possibly more valuable or exotic? Who knows. Does it really matter? This is just another show that will air in blocks of reruns whenever you're flipping channels at 3am.

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, Syfy
Paranormal Witness
Syfy's newest "reality" ghost series recounts true-life run-ins with ghostly entities. In tonight's premiere we'll meet a 5-year-old girl who befriends an invisible girl named Emily who may want to hurt the girl's family, plus a mother and daughter both encounter a mysterious girl in Florida. GET OUT OF THERE, all three of you!
