What to watch on Thursday, April 18...
8pm, The CW
The Vampire Diaries
It’s time for a fancy-dress party in Mystic Falls, because those always go swimmingly for everyone involved. When Elena foils Caroline’s meticulous prom plans in “Pictures of You,” Caroline summons the fortitude and loyalty that have made her such a great charac... wait, no, sorry, she goes running off to Klaus, because that’s where we’re at these days.
Hoping to kiss up, Annie invites Professor Corwnallis (Malcolm McDowell) to Jeff’s holiday hootenanny. But they quickly learn that the professor has a lousy grade in store for their history paper, and their response may be rather menacingly foreshadowed by the title “Intro to Knots.”
9pm & 9:30pm, NBC
Parks and Recreation
It’s come to Leslie’s attention that Pawnee has its share of kooky and antiquated laws on the books, which she works to purge in “Article Two” (while fending off the ramblings of town hall visitor Patton Oswalt, no less). Elsewhere, Chris provides management training to diligent and receptive pupils April and Ron. Then, in “Jerry’s Retirement,” Jerry announces his retirement, because sometimes these episode titles cut right to the chase. Leslie wants to send him off in style, but Tom frets that he’s next in line to become the office’s whipping boy.
The theme of Regionals is “dreams,” so the New Directirinos spend “Sweet Dreams” debating which song will best reflect their subconscious symbolic representations of Jungian archetypes. I’d vote for that Cranberries tune.
Tragedy forges a bond between Dr. Lecter and Abigail after she returns to Minnesota in “Potage.” But Jack suspects that she may have assisted her father’s serial killings—a pretty egregious violation of the spirit, if not the letter, of Take Your Daughter to Work Day.
SEASON 1 FINALE, 10pm, Comedy Central
The Ben Show With Ben Hoffman
Norm Macdonald drops by and maybe digs a couple of vintage OJ-trial jokes out of storage as “Ben Throws A Party” winds up its freshman season. Sketches include “Freak Animals” and a blooper reel.
SEASON 1 FINALE, 10:30pm, Comedy Central
Nathan for You
Nathan turns the tables on a gumshoe who agrees to be spied on for the day, hopefully with requisite hard-boiled voiceover. Then Nathan helps a taxi company reach shy customers, and also wrangles a product placement deal for the show.
SERIES PREMIERE, 12am, Comedy Central
Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell
Adult Swim’s latest live-action offering centers on Gary, a half-hearted demon stuck squarely in Hell’s middle management, and Claude, his far more insidious intern. In the opener, their latest endeavor to impress Lucifer (Matt Servitto, for you Banshee fans) involves convincing a pro ballplayer to thank the devil for his success.
