What to Watch Tonight: The Vampire Diaries, The Mentalist and Project Runway

What to watch on Thursday, October 20...

Thursday is the week's official pre-partying day, observed in honor of the day's namesake, Thor the Norse God of Thunder, who was known for shotgunning several six packs before every epic battle. (Is this true? I had heard this.) Anyway, I don't know, tomorrow's Friday so that's pretty exciting. Also so much good TV:

8pm, CW
The Vampire Diaries
Tonight Elena, Caroline, Bonnie and Matt, the last four remaining living seniors at Mystic Falls High School, start their first day of senior year. Also Damon has a hard time with his lame new roommate, Jerky Stefan, plus Tyler gets in touch with his inner douche now that he's a werewolf AND a vampire. Ugh, typical hybrid junk.

9pm, CW
The Secret Circle
Recently departed Nick's ne'er-do-well, ne'er-do-unattractive brother (Chris Zylka) arrives in town and it throws the female witches into a tizzy. This is just a textbook exacmple of a male witch upgrade, basically.

10:00pm, CBS
The Mentalist
When a woman's body is discovered on Catalina Island, the mental-est Mentalist in the land will interview a strange group of people who'd been meeting there. Plus Rigsby threatens to make things awkward with Grace when he dates a public defender. Oh, throw caution to the wind, Rigsby you rascal!

9pm, Lifetime
Project Runway
In the first part of the season finale, Tim Gunn drops in on everyone's lairs to check on their collections. What kind of off-putting, questionable-smelling psychedelic nightmare does Josh M. live in? Tune in to find out!

Miss Representation
In this original documentary, various experts and celebrities talk about the portrayal of women in the media and how it affects the developing minds of young girls. The bipartisan panel includes Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice, Gloria Steinem and noted mother impersonator Margaret Cho.

SEASON 2 PREMIERE, 11pm, Showtime
America's favorite band of incredibly unsexy male hookers returns for a new season of comradery and debauchery. What staged dates and forced banter will accompany THIS season's batch of full-frontal nudity? Tune in to find out!
