Whitney Houston Dies at 48

Whitney Houston is dead at age 48, according to the Associated Press. The cause of her death is unknown, Houston's publicist told the AP.

UPDATE: TMZ is reporting that Houston died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, where she was pronounced dead at 3:55pm PST.

News of Houston's passing comes just hours after it was reported that she'd been approached by Simon Cowell to join the American version of The X Factor as a judge, and just one day before the Grammys. A six-time Grammy-winner who also won an Emmy in 1986 for her performance at the 28th Annual Grammy Awards, the singer and actress will undoubtedly be honored during tomorrow's ceremony.

A reigning pop music star in the '80s and '90s, Houston made headlines in later years for her turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown and her ongoing struggle with drug abuse.

Houston's TV and film credits include The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife, and the Emmy-winning 1997 TV movie Cinderella, in which she played the Fairy Godmother.

RIP, Whitney.

Very little sympathy for people who cr#p on their lives when 99% of the worlds population would love to be in their shoes!

Such a sad waste!!!!!

It's been a horrible year or so to be a musician. Heavy D, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Clarence Clemmons, John Walker, Nathaniel Hale (Nate Dogg), Mike Starr, and Gerry Rafferty all died in this still young decade. And now Whitney?

I'm sure there's plenty more out there that I'm not remembering, but man, it seems the reaper is working overtime.

Not when people use copious amounts of drugs. I think they are just doing the reaper's job for him. (or her, if you watch Supernatural)

Dateline screwed up. They said that Whitney has only one child and failed to acknowledge her son. Shame on you NBC!!!

Why is it always the good stars like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston that die early? Yet we get stuck with bad singers like Justin Bieber and Hannah Montana.

Her songs and words moved my world till this day. In my most trying times I play One Moment in Time and am able to face anything.

Her personal life was sad and regrettable But i have never been able to stay mad at her too long.

So tragic!! I think she was definitely a role model before she allowed Bobby Brown's influence to flush her life and career down the toilet. What a shame!!!

She still had a choice. It isn't like he tied her down and shot her up.

On the upside, iTunes is reporting a huge increase in Whitney song sales.

Its funny to me how people came to read this article just to say something stupid, immature or disrespectful about Whitney Houston. Get a life. If you hate her so much why did you even click the article? RIP Ms. Houston. You will always be one of the greatest.

It is very sad when somebody is lost well before his/her time 48 is way to young to die, but with Whitney disrupting drug use bottom line here her body just said enough is enough and shut down, I don't like all the kiss ass, touching feeling BS either!! now for the truth Whitney was one of the most over rated talents ever, sorry you eliminate MY BODYGUARD, Whitney is nobody, plus Kevin Costar made that movie that is the stone cold truth

She had a beautiful voice. She was a talented singer.

I never fully understand the American mentality , when a great celeb is alive you can see all over the net that people talking trash about them "Whitney ->druggie ,mj -> child molester jokes" but when she / he is dead , everyone is sad and destroyed by the news.

If you like someone you say it when he/she is alive and if u don't like him say nothing because their private life is not your business .

No ILLEGAL drugs found and she wasn't drunk either. But keep going ...

Reminds me of Heath Ledger, he took too much of pharmaceutical drugs because of his depression, but still everybody thinks he O.D.'d. On the other hand, those are "drugs" too.

If you take drugs for years, you can just drop dead of a heart attack. After a while, the damage is done.

As one of 40's with health problem,I have to say She might need to medication"s"to keep working.I am prescribed medication full of 2 paperbag, every 2 weeks. They are dangerous, but sometimes there's no choice at this time.especially for busy people who doesn't have enough time to try alternatives.

Exactly. You may never touch a drug in your entire life and STILL drop dead of a heart attack or aneurism at age 48 - or even younger.
Reply
Flag
Exactly. Whether she was still abusing illegal drugs, that part is irrelevant, it took it's toll on her body. However, taking a boatload of Xanax and falling asleep (passing out) in the tub isn't brilliant either.

Love her (if you're normal) or hate her (if you're not) she was an icon in our time! A multi talented artist who shook the world with her voice! She also proved to be equally gifted in acting and she will be remembered for all of these things! oh yeah and she was Smoking Hot!!! Rest in peace Whitney! Thanks for the memories!

Live the druggie life and die young and washed out. She did this to herself. Poor life decisions. I can't feel sorry for her. Nobody forced the loser life on her. It's a shame, though, She was a great singer once. So much potential wasted.

My interest in Whitney Houston began when my parents bought me The Bodyguard soundtrack and I asked my parents "Who is this girl?" and my mom told me it was Whitney Houston and so I loved her song I Will Always Love You from that day on but I was nine years old at the time. But my first actual Whitney Houston album I bought with my birthday money was her 1987 album Whitney and I was hooked and it was such a fun album. Whitney will be remembered for good and fun music that you can dance to

I didn't realize she had such drug/alcohol problems, nor did I realize she was 48 (truth be told, I thought she was a lot older). A bit of a shocker to see the headline. RIP, Whitney.

I was thinking she was older, too, and In fact I just know I'm same generation with her.So I know 48 years are not so long,so,I respect what she achieved in her life.but if she had more time, she could go higher than we knew.

It's so sad losing her from music world.and It's always sad to know not so old people passed away.

Thank you for your music,Rest In Peace,Whitney.

Forgot Simon - Heard you speak of all the singers that used Whitney's songs...don't forget all of us dancer who were inspired more by her songs than anyone. I usedThe Greatest Love of All when it came out to today in my one-women shows (YouTube: Greatest Love of All-dance promo.mov)Just tearfully setting in for me, too. Wouldn't it be a wonderful change for the media if they stuck with the good in Whitney which truly overshadows her dark past. Peace
