Vampires are soooooo 2008. Which makes werewolves soooooo 2009. But what will be the hot thing that everyone copies in 2010? Our money is on witches. Those broom-riding babes will be the main ingredient of one of ABC's upcoming pilots, The Witches of Eastwick.
The network has ordered a first episode of the program that was first announced last August, says Variety. Based on the 1987 film starring Cher and Jack Nicholson and book written by John Updike, The Witches of Eastwick will be a sort of Desperate Housewives with hocus-pocus. The story centers on a trio of recently-jilted witches who discover they can cast spells after a strange man comes to the neighborhood.
NBC is saying goodbye to ER this year, and is taking extra steps to make sure it has a medical show on its roster. The network has greenlit a pair of life-saving shows, Mercy and Trauma. Mercy follows the lives of three nurses, and Trauma is like ER but out in the field.
Looks like NBC is sticking with the tried and true while ABC continues to roll the dice.
