Witches of Eastwick pilot ordered at ABC

Vampires are soooooo 2008. Which makes werewolves soooooo 2009. But what will be the hot thing that everyone copies in 2010? Our money is on witches. Those broom-riding babes will be the main ingredient of one of ABC's upcoming pilots, The Witches of Eastwick.

The network has ordered a first episode of the program that was first announced last August, says Variety. Based on the 1987 film starring Cher and Jack Nicholson and book written by John Updike, The Witches of Eastwick will be a sort of Desperate Housewives with hocus-pocus. The story centers on a trio of recently-jilted witches who discover they can cast spells after a strange man comes to the neighborhood.

NBC is saying goodbye to ER this year, and is taking extra steps to make sure it has a medical show on its roster. The network has greenlit a pair of life-saving shows, Mercy and Trauma. Mercy follows the lives of three nurses, and Trauma is like ER but out in the field.

Looks like NBC is sticking with the tried and true while ABC continues to roll the dice.

Okaaaay...well, maybe it will be good. I mean, the movie is still entertaining, even now. It does seem like these people are running out of creativity though. Eh, if it's good enough it'll get viewers and ratings and stay on the air and if not it'll die before the first season is over. I'll at least watch the pilot.

Should drug testing be required for choosing pilots now???? This would be fine if it was 1987! Nice to know some folk have money to WASTE!

These writers are really running out of ideas aren't they, I mean come on, they have let go of so many good shows in the past few years. And for what?? So they can put on shows about witches???

We had Charmed and Sabrina the teenage witch and that's been a good 8 year ago or better.

Ugh. Anything based on something that Cher was involved with will be AWFUL.

I loved Charmed! Well... before the writing started to get all light and "fluffy." Keep quality in the scripts and i'll be right there, glued to Eastwick. Anyone want to put money down that the network will screw it up? (They always do)

"he Witches of Eastwick will be a sort of Desperate Housewives with hocus-pocus. The story centers on a trio of recently-jilted witches who discover they can cast spells after a strange man comes to the neighborhood. "

Ok.. hocus-pocus = magic. Magic + Trio = Charmed! What the.. How can they come up with this kind of "new show" and saying Witches are hot for 2010? Where in fact it was already hot back in the late 90s to 2000.. Weird! They should've revived Charmed back instead, rather than come up with this one.. As for the medical shows, we already have grey's house and private practice..

Witches of Eastwick may be OK. Not sure we need any more doctor shows.

I thought Witches were "in" back in 1998? Oh wait, that was Charmed. I guess they could do it 11 years later.

Witches are the hot for 2010? I guess the writer's have never heard of a popular show called Charmed. The writer's over at NBC really, really need to come up with some ORIGINAL ideas. While I loved the movie version of Witches-I have no plans to watch the tv show. As for the new NBC medical shows-wasn't Leno supposed to have a nightly show airing in the 10pm time slot?
