Wolf, one of the most popular characters from the 1992 version of Gladiators, is back in the arena. This time the former bodybuilder, whose real name is Michael Van Wijk, will be working as the gladiators' manager.
Speaking about his comeback, Wolf said in a statement: "I was blown away by the buzz I felt competing in the Gladiators arena again. It was like I'd never been away. The audience was phenomenal and clearly wanted more of the Wolfman. And now I'm back as manager, and I'm in charge!"
Wolf was considered a firm favourite with British viewers during the original version of the show, which was broadcast on ITV for eight years. The return of the show on Sky1 earlier this year was a also huge success, drawing an average of 1.4 million viewers throughout the series.
Joining Wolf in the new series of Gladiators are six new characters: Amazon, Cyclone, Doom, Goliath, Siren, and Warrior.
"Our new Gladiators are an awesome sight to behold," Steve Jones, Sky's commissioning editor said. "We have found some brilliant characters and they will all be at the top of their game for fear of getting a rollicking from their new manager!"
The second series of the competition will also welcome John Coyle, one of Britain's most respected boxing referees, who will replace the show's resident referee, John Anderson. There will also be new challenges and events introduced for 2009.
Will you be cheering Wolf's return?

Hells yeah!
As long as Spartan is there I will be watching. Yummy
Losing Anderson is a blow, but you gotta love the Wolfman.
I'm sad John Anderson is leaving.... but glad Wolf's and some of the others are back.
John Anderson's leaving???? That's the worst thing that could happen... :(
New Challenges, it definitely needs them as I was getting bored of the current ones. New Gladiators, who's getting the boot then? This isn't as good as the old Gladiators, nowhere as cheesy. It's a shame about John Anderson (with the show since the start) but as Wolf I'm assuming won't be making much of an appearance I'm not too bothered.
the new version is still on?
Doesn't appeal to me but I remember the original was incredibly popular and appealed to a really wide age range. It was must-see tv in the 90s.
