Injured ABC newsman Bob Woodruff will return to the network in February with a special one-hour documentary about his accident and his road to recovery. To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports will air on ABC at 10 p.m. Tuesday, February 27.
Woodruff was reporting in Iraq in January of 2006 when an improvised explosive device blew up near him and his cameraman, Daniel Vogt, injuring them both. Woodruff caught a load of shrapnel in his head, neck, and torso, and was airlifted to a US military hospital to receive emergency treatment.
In the special, Woodruff will interview the soldiers and ABC producers who were eyewitnesses to the explosion. He will also speak to the doctors and nurses who operated on him in Iraq, as well as the medical teams that oversaw his convalescence at the US military hospital in Germany and at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. He will also spend time with wounded soldiers who are in the hospital.
