Work It Is Officially Canceled, Cougar Town Has a Return Date

This may be the last you ever see of Work It.

Work It is no more. Yanked like a bad weave from the ABC schedule after just two episodes, the new touchstone of TV awfulness will now lumber off in size 23 pumps to the place where terrible sitcoms go to die. No one is shedding too many tears over it. But the news (which ABC quietly announced late Friday night, before the Martin Luther King Day long weekend) has opened up a spot on the network's schedule, which is great news for Cougar Town—a show that’s developed a passionate following during its two seasons on the air. EW points out that after Cougar Town was left off ABC's midseason schedule, the show was conspicuously absent from the network's TCA panel. Could ABC have foreseen Work It’s imminent demise all along, and played it up to build buzz for Cougar Town's inevitable return? That might be giving the network a little too much credit; it did put Work It on the air in the first place, after all.

In any case, now's the time to celebrate if you’re a Cougar Town fan. The show returns to ABC on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 8:30pm, this time robbed of the safety net of its Modern Family lead-in (Cougar Town will now air after Tim Allen's Last Man Standing). This is a make-or-break moment for the series. Don’t forget to tune in!

How can they take this show off! It was funny. I was wondering what happened which is why I am here. I don't see the problem. How can shows like Desperate Housewife (nasty and bad) keeps on going on tv while Work It doesn't?

I actually liked it! :/

I don't see the big deal no one seemed to have a problem when Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari did it in "Bosom Buddies" that show was on air for a long time sometimes people got to do what they have to.....to keep their family going just saying I saw the two episodes and I like it

Actually Bosom Buddies only lasted for two seasons, and the cross-dressing was essentially abandoned after all the women learned of the deception in the second season premiere. So it was a mild success in the first season and tapered off to cancellation in the second season. Not exactly on the air "a long time" -- and there were certainly a lot of people who *did* "have a problem" with it.

ABC shouldn't wait for one of its new shows (and a stupid one too) to be cancelled to bring back Cougar town - one of the funniest shows in abc

Damn, after watching the first episode I gave my wife the over/under of 2.5. She took the under. What is this show, Lone Star?

About damn time man! My wine intake has decreased dramatically since the show was off air.

I thought it would be canceled sooner

I feel like The Middle might be a better fit with Last Man Standing, or even Suburgatory.

Hell, even Modern Family.

Cougar Town and Happy Endings would complement each other nicely. Ideally you move the Middle to Tuesday with Last Man Standing and slide Cougar Town into an amazing front to back Wednesday night schedule. Suburgatory - Modern Family - Cougar Town - Happy Endings

After season 1, CT sucked big time! Not sure what their problem was, but was almost unwatchable! Too bad, that first season was good!

My boyfriend and I loved Work It and are VERY disappointed that they cancelled it! It was hilarious! Amaury is awesome and his co-star was great too. What the hell is wrong with people? It's just a freaking sit-com, nobody is preaching for guys to become cross dressers. If a few people were offended then fine, let them watch something else. This was a fantastic, hilarious show and would've only gotten better as the cast got more comfortable with their parts and each other. Sad, really sad. Such a good show just wasn't given a fighting chance, 2 episodes? Come on. Cougar Town? Really? Give me a freaking break! The network made a stupid decision on this one. Btw, we are 41 and 42 yrs old, right at the top of who they were shooting for. Wow! Bad move! We would have been faithful weekly viewers and recommended it to friends, family and co-workers. People in my boyfriend's office at AT&T have a huge influence with each other about the shows they like to watch. David was telling them all how funny Work It was. And everybody loves Fernando Sucre from Prison Break, he alone would have brought in more viewers as the weeks went on and people found out he was a main character in drag! I could go on and on..... Bad bad move to cancel it without a real chance to see if people would watch it.

I don't think it was cancelled for offense, but because you were one of the only people that thought it was funny.

I doubt it was cancelled due to GLAAD:s protests but simply because it was truly awful. It's the sheer stupidity of the show that sinked it, not the theme. The only mystery is that two episodes actually aired.

I disagree with you 10000000000000000000+%. I don't see anything funny in a show that is using a joke created at least half a century ago and destroying it too. And not even that, this show seems to also have the most stupid, overly annoying, obvious, unoriginal and overused stereotypes of women (mainly, a bit for men too) and uses that as justification for it's jokes.

A comedy can have lots of jokes but when the show itself is being referred to as "a joke" that isn't good. The whole show is rooting on the audience believing that these two men live in a women dominated world and that these women are also somehow moronic enough to be the only people in the world who can't tell these "women" are men cross-dressing and putting on appalling attempts at female voices and that these characters are likeable/relateable to the audience, something which is found by just some sense of realism and an actual personality. Even if the characters are supposed to be clowns, there has to be something in the show that makes the situation at least border on very mildly believable. Also if you look at the ad on youtube all the fans are saying how sad and insulted they are that the actors who were talented and amazing on other more creditable shows could be doing this. My Mum would be insulted and appalled by this show and she's in her fourties too. I'm still classified as a kid but that doesn't mean I can't see how this show is not worth a dollar

If you like it I guess it's a shame for you (that wasn't supposed to sound sarcastic) but if that show wasn't cancelled I would be one of the many going, "this show doesn't deserve to be on TV and is an insult to other shows that are original, smart, hilarious and (in my opinion) one of the most important things to really good comedies, a heart."

I'm not trying to insult fans of the now-dead show but that's my opinion.

Geesh...hate much? As a Christian I'm offended by your hate-filled diatribe. Also, have you met a cliche you didn't like? (Incidentally, I am NOT one of those warm'n'fuzzy "God wants us all to be happy" types, either.)

Well, at least the networks provided me with 2 weeks of laughs. Now it's back to mostly dramas. Most of the so-called comedies on tv today provide no chuckles at all. Watched a rerun of both Frasier and Friends the other day and they remind me of a time when tv comedies were truly funny. What's out today, including Cougar Town are just crap.
Reply

That was an insult to Friends. Friends was a good show that actually deserved to do well. WI did nothing right at all. It deserved a short life.

I'm happy for Abed!

Also, does Work It have any affect on the Dead Pool from last fall?
Reply

I actually think Last Man Standing will be a fair lead-in for Cougar Town. Certainly not as good as the Modern Family comedy block, but it's about the next best thing, and I know a decent amount of people who skipped Modern Family anyway and came back to CT.

I'll admit that I never even gave Work It a chance, but it just looked too stupid. With drag, they have to be hot or funny, and I saw no hint of either. At least Swayze and Snipes were funny, and Leguizamo had 'legs like a bucket o' chicken.'

More like "Legs*guizamo, amirite? ^^

While I totally agree with your "To Wang Fu" reference, whenever I saw an ad for WI I thought of "Bosom Buddies", only without the comedy or charm. What's your take on Hanks & Scolari?

Never watched a single episode. I heard it was up there with Three's Company, but I have nothing firsthand.

good, Work It stayed too long and CT has been gone too long.. but Modern Family was never a "safety net lead-in" for me, in fact I changed the channel when Modern Family came on and watched any random thing until Cougar Town came on :p

Funny, I always changed the channel as soon as Modern Family was finished.

Thank you there are actually some people out there who are smart enough not to watch Modern Family, I would rather watch paint dry. I for one will never join that cult

So you basically call anyone who watches, alas even likes Modern Family, dumb? Hahahahaha...you missy are porbably the dumbest thing to ever walk this very earth. Holy sh*t, it cannot get any more stupid than that.

So what's next?? My money's on "Are You There, Chelsea?" (though I've been wrong before).
