Work Out trainer dies

Doug Blasdell, one of the trainers who appeared in the Bravo reality show Work Out, died Monday of unknown causes. Blasdell had been taken to the hospital unexpectedly over the weekend.

In a statement, Bravo said, "All of us at Bravo are deeply saddened by the terrible news of Doug Blasdell's untimely passing. He was an inspiring trainer, an exuberant colleague who made the gym a very fun place each and every day, and was extraordinarily warm in all aspects of his life. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his many friends and colleagues at this very difficult time."

Work Out followed celebrity trainer Jackie Warner as she dealt with the everyday trials of owning a gym in Beverly Hills. Bravo order a second season of the show in October, after the finale scored more than a million viewers.

Blasdell was one of the trainers who worked for Warner, and was, like her, openly gay. In July, the 44-year-old Blasdell spoke to gay Web site AfterElton.com about his pride in the show.

"It's a beautiful thing because it really focuses on being gay and the gay community in general," he said in the interview. "The people they picked represent our community very well...the three of us give different examples of what it is to be gay. And none of it is negative."

How incredibly sad - he seemed like a really sweet, caring kind of person, and being gay had nothing to do with that.

I agree, Doug was a Kind and Loving person, who cared about others. The world needs people like him to exist, he will be truly missed. I would like to send love and my sympathy to the cast and crew of Work Out, and to most of all his family. At a time like this we need to remember his life not his "lifestyle." You inspired me Doug by who you were.

some of the comment here are just rude! Doug wasn't killed by AIDS for god's sake. just bcuz he's gay that doesn't mean he has Aids. and just bcuz he worked out and buffed that he's gonna die from stroke or something. the other sites i visted said he was treating for brain cancer of some kind.
Doug was a good person and the only normal gay man(by normal, i meant not over-the-top like Jack from Will&Grace) in Bravo's lineup of shows. i hope his death is deal with properly in the new season of workout.
RIP, Doug.

Maybe somebody should tell HotStuff1026 the difference between HIV and AIDS (yes, it's not the same!)... maybe than he/she can correctly rant and live out his/her homophobia.

When you look at his body, it looks like a normal work out body, not like somebody who want's to go to the extreme and needs the help of steroids.

Nobody's inmortal, you can ride, you can hide, you can do sit-ups or bench presses, but you can't escape death.
Seriously, anyway, it's unusual but completely possible. Bad luck, really!

Oh, by the way, people shouldn't be that jealous, for example, if you are a lazy waste of a LOT of space and food it doesn't mean that the only way to get fit is injecting your self with steroids or whatever.

One last thing, the HIV and the AIDS it will eventually produces doesn't really kill, it weakens you to a point that a mild cold will do it. :P
I don't mean to be confrontational, but somebody under my post, shouldn't write. :D It's embarrassing, really...(All in good faith):-P "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" (Sammuel Clemmens)

Too much working out and not enough lounging around watching tv and eating beer and wings will kill a guy...

A stark reminder that we really have no control over our lives.

We can invest all we want in our health, our bodies, our surrounding wealth, but what is really going to matter when we drop dead.

Sorry for the downer. But for me, felt like a reality check. I spend a good amount of time investing in my health, but realize that it can't be the end all and be all. Much more to life, much more to life.

Wow... working out for you CAN be bad. Who knew?

This reminds me of when that Adkins diet guy died. Not good publicity for your product there buddy. I will not watch this show because I choose to live past 44!

(Seriously though, big tragedy. Real sad to hear)
