NBC Cancels Working the Engels

There's are no more angles to work for NBC's Working the Engels. The network has canceled the series after one season, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The comedy followed the dysfunctional (and sometimes criminal) Engel family as they attempted to keep their law practice afloat after their patriarch passed away. NBC has yanked the show from its schedule effective immediately, replacing it with new episodes of Welcome to Sweden, which is already renewed for Season 2.

Working the Engels starred Andrea Martin (SCTV, Wag the Dog), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Azura Skye (American Horror Story), and Benjamin Arthur (Less Than Kind) and was a Canadian co-production that earned a straight-to-series order in November. Global TV in Canada has also canceled the series, which premiered in Canada in March and ran all 12 episodes.

Will you miss Working the Engels? Or are you still trying to figure out which show we're talking about?

It could have been OK - it just needed a different premise, different cast and different writers. Oh, and maybe a cast member related to someone who's actually funny. And subtitles in Swedish couldn't hurt...

This actually aired? I've liked Azura since Zoe, Duncan, Jack, and Jane, so I would've given it a shot. Oh well. :-/

What took them so long? Unwatchable. Yay for Sweden though - that show is quietly very good.

Just curious, is TV.com no longer doing News Briefs to gather all this news in one place? It seems we've not had it in a while.

I suspect there's not much to tell right now. August and all.

I've been wondering the same thing. Thought it might be temporary while staffers were on vacation or something.

That article image up top:
Once you picture the woman in the middle as Sheldon from TBBT with a wig, you can't unsee it.

I sort of liked the pilot, but then it got really stupid--which isn't always bad for a comedy--but it was for this one.

I figured since it was Canada+US and had an SCTV star I'd give it a look. I watched the episodes NBC streamed, but sadly it wasn't "must see TV"
