Would-be Dorothys show off talent

Andrew Lloyd Webber is looking for a new
stage Dorothy

Each of the budding stars in the BBC's talent show Over the Rainbow performed a song to showcase their West End "leading lady" credentials.

The 11th wildcard Dorothy selected by the viewers was named on the programme as Emilie Fleming, 19, from Tyne & Wear.

The contenders were put through their paces under the scrutiny of the show supremo himself alongside judges Charlotte Church, Sheila Hancock and John Partridge.

Lord Lloyd-Webber said Judy Garland's movie performance was "iconic" but he was not looking for an impersonation and wanted a modern Dorothy.

"I'm looking for a girl who's a bit feisty. It's got to be a Dorothy who's got a bit of edge," he said.

Over The Rainbow follows other hugely successful TV talent searches by Lord Lloyd-Webber such as I'd Do Anything and Any Dream Will Do.

Jodie Prenger, who won a part as Nancy in the West End show Oliver! on 2008's I'd Do Anything, performed during last week's show. She is assisting in the search for a stage dog to take on the role of Dorothy's four legged friend Toto.

The other finalists include: Stephanie Davis, 17, from Merseyside; Lauren Samuels, 22, from London; Dani Rayner, 16, from Cheshire; Steph Fearon, 21, from London; Amy Diamond, 22, from Cheshire; Danielle Hope, 17, from Greater Manchester; Bronte Barbe, 18, from Cheshire; Jessica Robinson, 18, from Middlesbrough; Sophie Evans, 17, from Wales and Jenny Douglas, 18, from Edinburgh.

One Dorothy will be knocked out of the contest in Sunday evening's results show. This will follow a sing-off in front of Lord Lloyd-Webber between the two contestants with the lowest number of public votes.
