Reality show contestant Ruth Lorenzo ended up in the bottom two of X Factor contestants last weekend, after the wrong telephone number was displayed on screen. This is the second voting blunder the show has seen in as many years--last February ITV, overcharged 1.8 million voters, after a mix up with the cost of interactive votes.
This Saturday, fans were unable to vote for over an hour, after Ruth’s onscreen voting number was shown missing a digit, the Daily Mirror has reported.
The 25-year-old was forced to compete against fellow contestants Girlband, after the two acts received the lowest number of votes that week. The judges' votes later saved Ruth from being kicked off.
An X Factor spokeswoman explained to the Daily Mirror that, "the incorrect number was on screen for less than three seconds, and this was accompanied by an audio announcement giving the correct number." She claimed it would "not have changed the outcome of the vote."
