Yoba joins NBC's Jeff Goldblum drama

Malik Yoba has joined the cast of NBC's midseason drama series Raines, which stars Jeff Goldblum as an eccentric, brilliant cop who talks to dead victims that help him solve his crimes.

Yoba will play his ex-partner and confidant. The New York Undercover alumnus most recently costarred opposite Andre Braugher on FX's Thief.

Meanwhile, Constance Zimmer has been upped to a regular on ABC's Boston Legal. She joined David E. Kelley's legal drama in the recurring role of Claire Simms, a sharp-tongued, aggressive new attorney at Crane, Poole, & Schmidt. Zimmer continues to recur on HBO's Entourage.

Not that hopeful but i'll give it a shot I haven't seen GoldBlum in years so I don't know what he's capable of now.

I love Jeff Goldblum. I hope he can make something happen with primetime drama. I'm glad to hear, from what you guys are saying, that it's not so much about ghosts as the rumors seem to say. Hopefully it's got something that sets it apart from all the other crime dramas, but doesn't put it in the same category as the supernatural shows.

When I heard about this show I thought the idea was great, but I wasn't sure if it would take off. I thought sentimentality would get the better of the show. Or worse, it would be another Ghost Whisperer (officially the worst acted show ever) or even that really bad episode of Monk with Trudy's ghost. WRONG! MONK! WRONG!

But Jeff's a great quirky actor (even though he's been criticised for playing himself for years really) and this might just work. I'd rather watch this than Medium anyday really, at least the characters in this are far more sceptical of the protagonist's abilities (plus we're not meant to be sure ourselves). In Medium, after an episode of mistrust, they just hired her off the bat to solve every crime in the state. I hope they bring it over to the UK!

This show has NOTHING to do with GHOSTS. Im getting sick of every review I read on it saying that. I REPEAT NOTHING TO DO WITH GHOSTS. I saw the pilot and its very very good. It has it's own spin on the cop murder mystery genre and is not a Ghost Whisper/Medium take off. Please don't write a review about something you have yet to see. The pilot has been onlne for a couple of months. It's not very hard to find..... :P
I have high hopes for this one!!

If you saw him in "Igby Goes Down," you know he can handle the emotional stuff. Good luck on the new show, Jeff.

It will be interesting to see how they structure Goldblum's character in this new show. I always think of him as a technical/details actor (think the scientists he's played in Jurassic Park and Independence Day). This sounds like more of an emotion-driven role for him. I hope it works out.

Forget about "Raines" how about Medium?

So is the show Medium/Ghost Whisperer combined with every cop show ever made?

When they start doing complex mathematical equations to describe what a show's like - I have to say I'm a little skeptical. Goldblum's got the chops, but so did Liotta... It's all about structure and challenging viewers expectations. The really big new shows have taken steps to try new things, something the networks have always tried to avoid - suck it it while you can!

I agree, Jeff Goldblum is amazing, I saw the pilot, it's really interesting, and it had this emotional spin in it that can grow on you, plus it left a pretty big mystery at the end, it's a great show!

Goldblum's an interesting actor. Will he succeed where Liotta failed?
