Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K. Will Clown Around on the New FX Series Baskets

There’s no word yet on whether President Obama will guest-star, but FX has ordered 10 episodes of a new comedy called Baskets, starring Zach Galifianakis, the network announced Wednesday.

Created by Galifianakis (Between Two Ferns), Louis C.K. (Louie), and Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia), Baskets follows Chip Baskets’ (Galifianakis) pursuit of his dream of becoming a respected clown. After a failing to enroll in a prestigious clowning school (is that an oxymoron?) in Paris, of all places, the only job that Chip can find is with a local rodeo in California.

Ummm, Louis C.K. AND Zach Galifianakis involved in the same project!?!?!? Baskets is already the funniest show on television.

Production is slated to begin next year for a 2016 premiere.

Considering how brutal Galifianakis was on Bored to Death, my expectations of him are incredibly low for this show, especially since Louis CK hasn't done much to make me laugh in awhile now. Still, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, even if a 2016 premiere date is downright absurd for a comedy.

I don't know why, but I've never been a huge fan of Zach Galifianakis.

I mean, I find him funny in some things. However, more often than not, he and his characters annoy me.

There's no way I won't be looking forward to checking this out, despite the good points JT made below.

Louie is not that funny!

Louie has its moments, and Louis CK has some pretty hilarious standups, but I honestly don't get the near-fanatical level of praise the show has gotten the last couple of seasons, especially given the significant lack of humor compared to previous seasons.

Agree wholeheartedly. Nothing on FX 'is' or ever has been as completely hilarious as 'The League' (Except for a time, its usual companion 'Its Always Sunny'). Its the only comedy on television anymore that is just funny. No special messages, no romance, no misplaced drama AT ALL, no high concept, just bringing the funny every week in a show that has something to appeal to EVERYONE. - I knew this one was special because the children, Baby Jeffrey, Ellie, and C.B., are treated just as bad, and are just as dumb, as everyone else. Long live 'The League'.

It took me forever to get into The League, because I thought it had to do with fantasy football (I'm not much into football, let alone "fantasy any sport"); however, all my buddies kept telling me that you didn't have to be into that to enjoy it. They'd say stuff like, "It's right up your alley. It's people being horrible to one another, for laughs, and the joke continuity is amazing."

So, I finally checked it out... and it was like crack. Best comedy on television, imo.

Sounds overly high-concept and will need strong vision and direction to keep it in check. Very funny people involved but that can lead to an out-of-control "it's funny because I do whatever I want" sort of thing.
