Zachary Levi Is Joining NBC's Heroes Reboot in a "Key" Role

Zachary Levi is hopping into bed with NBC again. The Chuck alum has joined the second coming of the superhero drama Heroes, the upcoming miniseries Heroes Reborn, the network announced Friday.

Details on Levi's role are currently locked in a safe under NBC chief Bob Greenblatt's desk, but according to a cagey press release, he'll play a "key yet undisclosed role." Casting for Heroes Reborn has been mostly dormant as of late; until now, Jack Coleman, who's reprising his role as Noah "HRG" Bennett, was the project's only confirmed cast member.

If you're unfamiliar with the Heroes franchise, lucky you. Just kidding! Well, sort of. The original series was set in a world where a few ordinary people discovered they had "extraordinary abilities"; in other words, there were a bunch of fledgling superheroes running around. Heroes was a massive hit when it debuted in 2006, but quickly fell apart creatively and devolved into one of genre television's biggest disappointments. I'm still waiting to see the final fight that was supposed to go down in the Season 1 finale.

Little is known about Heroes Reborn, except that it has a 13-episode order and will air as a miniseries. But NBC did release this teaser early last year:

Since Chuck ended in 2012, Levi hasn't added many credits to his acting resume. He's been running his own company promoting nerd culture, he played Fandral in the movie Thor: The Dark World, and he appeared on Broadway in the musical First Date. But he also married Missy Peregrym, so it's not like he's been sitting on the couch playing Call of Duty for months.

Are you totally stoked to see Levi return to television?

But then it became obvious that pretty much everybody had these abilities......

Why oh why is TIm Kring still leading this Reborn project? Can't he be paid off for his awesome idea so someone else take over? If any man proved they good ruin a brilliant TV show, it was him.

The 1st season had so much potential, but left itself stuck by the season 1 finale. If NBC had any sense, they'd get back as many of the original cast as possible from season 1, and re-boot from there. With a new lead writer and showrunner.

It was already a thing since they announced that Jack "HRG" Coleman would be back. ;) But I'm glad Levi is joining him in the show!

Also, please, it's "Bennet", not "Bennett".

Firstly, Levi back on TV is awesome, although I'd like Strahovski and Adam Baldwin back (in something decent).
Secondly, Levi got to make out with Yvonne Strahovski for five seasons and now he's married to Missy Peregym... lucky f*cker!

I predict an epic time-travel story wrecking arc will ruin the show by the 2nd or 3rd season. Maybe by season one if they just jump right back into that. Time-travel is perhaps the worst of all writing cop-outs when used as a cop out. It will destroy your show.

I love Levi and his former show. I don't know if this Heroes reboot is a good idea . Sometimes shows end for a reason

I'd rather let rabid Russian Vodka loving squirrels gnaw at my testicles than see either Levi or Heroes come back to TV. I Siberian Squirrels do have a fondness for both Stoli and human testicles in the Spring!

Wow Zach! He's signed up for a risky gig.
Heroes first season was great, but then it took a turn in later episodes of the 2nd season. This is a miniseries, so we shouldn't expect that again.
Great news nonetheless! :) Been waiting for far too long to see him on screen again.

Wow, if I was Zack there is no freaking way I would work for NBC ever again. I still haven't seen Heroes, but given that it was an NBC failure and they are doing it again that doesn't really bode well for this one.

Just mho, but I really liked the first season & have no problem recommending giving the 1st episode a shot & just simply touch & go from there deciding if you like it enough to move on to any other episodes or not. I personally made the mistake of sticking with it for too long & got burned by the over-hyped crapfest it quickly became...but I took the time a few months ago to rewatch a few seasons with a different eye, & I still found season one really fun to watch (& just season one)

When this new puppy comes out, I'm gonna watch it simply out of curiosity, but I'll just wait a few months or so after it airs before I do, so that way, I don't personally count as a rating that would encourage them to make more

Honestly I don't really think this Heroes Reborn thing is going to be all that great so while I'm glad he's getting paid I hope he got to read a script or two before signing up. The show was just so craptastic at the end that I just don't see how they can reboot or restart it in any way that I'd be interested in watching it again. Unless I'm forgetting something even Ando had powers when the show ended.

Rather than looking at this as a reboot, you could look at this being a return to the original plan of having a new cast each season.

That's good news. Coincidentally, I just finished watching through all five seasons of Chuck for the first time, so I kinda feel like I know the guy right now. Looking forward to Heroes Reborn!!!

Haha I'm glad the bit about marrying Missy was in there. As a huge fan of both Zac and Missy's acting careers and having met them at Nerd HQ, couldn't be happier for two people I don't know but feel like close friends O_o

He was great on Broadway, Tim. I know a musical theatre lover like you probably loved it! Because I know you loved it so much, here's a link to one of his performances!
