"I am writing this review on behalf of my cousin. And maybe many other kids as well."
I was surprised when R.L Stine finally released a new TV program for kids a few years ago, titled "The Nightmare Room" - which was basically an update on his classic Goosebumps series. Why was I so surprised?
Well, why did they bother to call it "The Nightmare Room"? (yes, I know that WAS the title of R.L Stine's book series) - But my reason is that I think more kids identified with the name "Goosebumps". I mean, talk about "Goosebumps" - and people immediately say "oh yeah, R.L. Stine!", it's almost like the name Goosebumps is long since burned into the mind of every living person in the universe. BUT, talk about "The Nightmare Room" and many people will ask "what is that?" (Here is one example: a younger cousin of mine is a huge fan of Goosebumps at the moment. She reads the books whenever she can - even (sometimes) when she is meant to be in bed asleep! So one day I bought her a copy of one of The Nightmare Room books. I thought she would really enjoy reading it, but instead she just said to me "No, I probably won't read it! It's not a Goosebumps book!" - I tried to explain to her that the book was from the same author, but she didn't seem to care). So my point is, why call it "The Nightmare Room"? Why not something like "Goosebumps Beyond" or even "Are You Afraid Of The Goosebumps?" (well, MAYBE not that title..?) - then it might have been more identifiable to kids as a show - and may have lasted longer if people had been actually able to identify the show! Now it seems that R.L. Stine has taken this advice to heart, because he has put out a brand new series of Goosebump books titled "Goosebumps Horrorland" - which my young cousin adores! See, all he had to do was keep the name "Goosebumps" in the title - and kids will continue to snap them up by the handful! Now I may be wrong, but I think if they had used the word Goosebumps in the title of this show... Well, I think you can see where I am going with this.
The Nightmare Room is a great kid's anthology series though - just a shame it was too short lived. Now, doesn't that just give you Goosebumps?
