Nora: I have had many great experiences in my career, but playing the character Laura in Brick was probably my favorite.
(edit)
Nora: I like to be connected at all times, especially to my boyfriend. He owns vintage clothing shops, one in L.A. and one in New York, so he’s out of town, in N.Y.C., a lot!
(edit)
Nora: I was just trying to stay warm, so I threw on everything and anything that I had. Then I saw the photos of me and was like yikes! Never again.
(edit)
Nora: I'm so proud of being in Brick. Laura is a femme fatale, but I didn't want to play her too big. She's still in high school, after all. I didn't want her to become a parody. I hadn't seen The Maltese Falcon or The Big Sleep before filming Brick. I still haven't. Rian [Johnson] didn't want us to watch any film noir because he didn't want us to imitate anything from those movies, even subconsciously.
(edit)
Nora (about her style): [It is] A cross between Kate Moss and Audrey Hepburn, with a ‘70s Yves Saint Laurent twist.
(edit)
Nora: I’m constantly annoyed with my hair, so hats make the most perfect alternative. I love my black beret!
(edit)
Nora: Did I always want to be an actress? Yes, but then I also wanted to be the President of the United States. I left college in Texas, where I grew up, when I was 18 and thought I'd try the LA thing for a year. That was seven years ago.
(edit)
Nora: I liked the dialogue in Brick. You do have to approach it musically, but after I'd read it several times, it seemed to come quite naturally. And we rehearsed for a long time. Joe [Gordon-Levitt] and I would go to Rian's [Johnson] house to block scenes and go over dialogue. The shoot was only 20 days. Rian was amazing. He seemed so relaxed. The first time we went, Rian cooked us lunch - stuffed red bell peppers. He's a good cook. But after that we mostly ate take-outs.
(edit)
Nora (about her career before acting): I was a clothing buyer for a small boutique in Dallas, Texas.
(edit)
Nora: At my first Sundance, I was a fashion disaster!
(edit)
Nora: How did I get work? Honestly, I dropped off my photo and a note with a few agents and got lucky.
(edit)
Nora: I just did a movie called Conversations with Other Women, which stars Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart. I have a small role playing Helena Bonham Carter's character when she was younger. I wanted the part so that I could watch Helena work but, of course, I didn't shoot with her at all. I met her briefly once. That's the movies for you.
(edit)
Nora (about studying at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science in Denton): I only finished one year. It was a great program if you want to be an engineer or a doctor, but it kind of pushed me in the opposite direction. I like art and English.
(edit)
Nora (about her mother's reaction to the movie Brick): She was so nervous for the first half of it because she was afraid I wasn't going to be good.
(edit)
Nora (about reading the fan response to her role in Everwood): I kept trying to stop reading, but it's like finding your boyfriend's diary. You're not supposed to look, but once you've started, you can't stop.
(edit)
Nora (about her mother's reaction to the movie Brick): She really liked it, but she said she needs to see it again.
(edit)
Nora (about her role in the movie Brick): I knew the idea of it and I knew the character, but I can't remember ever watching The Maltese Falcon or The Big Sleep or any of those.
(edit)
Nora: It's strange that Brick is finally out now. We did it so long ago.
(edit)
Nora (about her role in Everwood): I was breaking up the Ephram/Amy thing. And people were so mean. They said, 'She's ugly. She's fat.' Somebody said, 'She has a horrible accent, and she's Canadian.' I was like, I'm from Texas.
(edit)
Nora (about her high school years): I wasn't popular, and I wasn't unpopular.
(edit)
Nora: I came out of the shower at the gym, and a woman came up to me and said, 'I loved your film.'
(edit)
Nora: I found my old journal from when I was 8. There's this entry from when I was sick and my parents couldn't take me to an open casting call. I'd written, 'I hate my parents.' I totally forgot about that. It's strange for an 8-year-old to feel that strongly, but it helps explain where I am today.
(edit)
Nora: I'm a closeted teen-movie fan. Not the bad-bad ones, but the good-bad ones. How great is Can't Buy Me Love?
