    I was wondering about this

I am going to get a newer car soon and I was wondering, what cars have good gas mileage?

Anything with 25 miles per gallon or more is good to me.

Anything that has high horse power (I think) and 4 cylinders gets good gas mileage. Also if you get a hybrid they get even better.

Well, I'm not sure, but I know most foreing cars get better gas milege than ameican made like toyota. I'm not really a car person but as an enviormentalist and one who is concerned with saving money I know that 4 cylinder and hybrids get good gas mileage.

    Toyota Prius
    Honda Civic hybrid
    Toyota corola Hybrid
Honda insight. this one is kinda useless.
Chevy Impala SS. it's got power and milage 305 hp with 32mpg i think
    the corvette gets 27
VW diesel Bug Jetta Golf. are better than any hybrid.
    Ford escape Hybrid.
    Jeep Liberty Diesel. 30

really Hybrids don't save any money unless you drive it for 300K miles. the impala's displacement on demand. or the Diesel cars are probably the best choises.

FYI the more gas you keep in your tank, the less it burns. never let it get past under a half a tank.

I know lot of cars with good gas mileage, but I think they have somewhat different names for them in the states and I don't know the english terms to explain anything mechanical anyway.

    But shortly:
    small engine+new model+light weight+not american=good gas mileage

Also in older cars automatic gearbox takes a lot more gas.

I would think about buying a diesel, because if all else fails you can convert them to use vegetable oil--i think they call the converts griesels. vegetable oil is now running about $2.20 a gallon.

well there's also getting a horse, i'd rather have a horse and carriage like the old days, rather than a car.

Hybrids will save you money in the short run, but you will eventually have to replace the battery, which will cost an arm and a leg. It'll cost way more than you'll save on gas.

    Stuff you want:

a four cylinder engine, preferably smaller than 2 litres. No turbochargers or superchargers

a lot of valves, several camshafts, ideally 16 and 2 respectively. Look for things like "DOHC", "16-V", or "Twin-cam" written on the car or the engine. These things tend to be well advertised.

a valve timing system of some sort. Usually represented as a bunch of letters mentioned when talking about the engine. something like VTEC, MIVEC, ECOTEC, VVT-i. ECOTEC is GM, don't buy GM, GM is crap. These also tend to be well advertised on the car.

A 5 or 6 speed manual transmission, barring that, a 5 or 6 speed auto, barring that, at least a 4 speed auto with overdrive.

Direct fuel injection, only available on very few newer cars. If you can get a car with it, do so.

Or you could just buy a Toyota Yaris, it has all of these things. 41 MPG. IN THE CITYCompare this to the  Honda Civic Hybrid, which gets 30 MPG.  It boggles my mind.

    that's called Biodiesel..

really in the long run a diesel is better than those Hybrids.
it may look worce but you'll have to drive a Prius more that 300000 miles inorder to actualy save money. and get this that car's not goonna go over 25000miles. heck very few people even drive cars for 100000 miles befor they get rid of them.
