I remember when Disney use to be about the magic and expression of youth. Now this sugar coated garbage like Life with Derek,High School Musical, and the Suite life of Zach and Cody airs on Disney Channel urging kids to be perfect.Disney now barely owns my respect with occaisional hits like Phineas and Ferb and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.Walt Disney would not be proud.Children do not need any more pressure from cheap screenwriters who just don't understand. Please feel free to express your opinion.

I agree! Walt would be turning in his grave if he seen some of the rubbish Disney is making these days! what happened to the good old days, Aladdin, Snow White, Lady and the Tramp, Pinocchio, The Sword in the Stone, Jungle Book, Lion King e.t.c. thats the Disney i will always remember from my youth! i think the last Disney movie i liked was Finding Nemo, only because i reminded me of the old days!

If you exclude anything by Pixar, Disney hasn't had a good movie since "The Lion King."

I completely agree that Disney has lost touch with its original philosophy. The company seems to be more intent on making a profit than creating worthwhile entertainment.

Disney really stinks right now. The tv channel has utter crud on 24/7. The only thing I like from disney nowadays is POTC and that new movie Wall E that's coming out this summer, cause it looks kind of funny.

I remember a time when Disney was pure magic. Their animated musicals alone were the stuff of legend, I mean even now they are considered to be some of the most beloved movies ever made. And now? Okay once and awhile Disney/Pixar puts out something cute and nice that has impressive visuals but short of that Disney stinks now. It's such a shame to because they used to be fantastic, they've had quite a fall.

I don't know guys, I think Disney is better than ever and I've never really been a fan. Enchanted was fantastic, High School Musical is one of the most lucrative series in entertainment, Pirates of the Caribbean made billions as will the Chronicles of Narnia series and Pixar is a part of the company so you can't discount everything they've done.

If you're talking about the Disney Channel then I have no opinion - I haven't watched anything on there since the Mickey Mouse Club in the late 80s.

I agree, the movies I watched when I was little are very different than what is on now. I miss that, and like it better. Now they think everyone with lips can sing, which they can't. High School Musical is okay, but IMO, just IMO, it's not a Disney movie. Lion King, Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, those are Disney movies.

Lucrative, yes. Anywhere near a decent piece of entertainment? No.

You all should read the book "Disney: The Mouse Betrayed" by Peter Schweizer. It details how Disney's corporate ethics went to Hell in a handbasket during the tenure of Michael Eisner.

You have to look at the audience it's catering to. Had High School Musical came out back when the Little Mermaid and the Lion King ruled that generation would have ate it up. They're the kind of company that evolves with the times and technology not the kind of company that evolves with it's audience. Because it's audience is more or less brand new every five years. When Disney started pushing Pixar's CGI flicks purists cried foul because Disney was abandoning old school animation. But then the last old school animation flick bombed at the theatres.

You guys are in the minority. Disney is doing great and turning a bigger profit than ever before.

That may be, but I still say Disney has put nothing but total sh*t out.

Fair enough, I get what you mean now but I guess I'm the opposite. Before Toy Story Disney flicks really didn't even register on my radar.

So what if they're profitable? It doesn't necessarily mean they're churning out a quality product. Everything that carries the Disney name nowadays is nothing but sugary-sweet pablum.

direct to DVD sequels with no effort put into them suck. Why do they do it? money. High School Musical is overatted and is currently scheduled for a 3rd installment. Why? money.

and they market these sugary-superficial-teeny-bop shows to little girls who will go out and buy this crap without knowing any better. I know a first grader who bought a Hannah Montanna wig...(anyone else think they've sunk incredibly low if they have to slap her name on a wig of all things to get a quick buck?). Why? (say it with me) Money.

They've moved away from what the company was founded on. The last time I recall them doing anything with Mickey Mouse was Kingdom Hearts 2 (and that was released in early 2006). In fact the closest thing disney has put out that is remotely close to the old stuff is the PIXAR films (and all Disney does is slap their logo on it).

This is Disney we're talking about, the original Snow White audience died out years ago. Anyone alive who's loved Disney past and present has loved a multi-billion dollar corporation. These are the guys that built Disneyland in 1955: they've been churning out sugary-sweet pablum for over 50 years. It's a little late to cry foul.

But I will concede that the crap they churn out today may not be as good as the crap they churned out fifteen years ago.

I am not a Disney "purist" per se; I love the old- fashion*d "traditional" animation AND the Pixar ones. Here are just a few takes:

Watch the opening of "Bambi". All that beautiful, lush, REAL forest; beautiful to the tiniest detail, WITHOUT CGI. Same can be said for the forest scenes of "Snow White" - the grandmama of all animated movies. Also, the original, animated "101 Dalmatians" - each pup was hand drawn.

"Oliver & Co." was among the first to incorporate minor CGI into the regular animation; I just remember how awkward the limousine looked - it LOOKED like a "computer drawing", all angles, no softness to it at all (I know, cars aren't soft; you know what I mean).

Everyone had gone on and on about "Little Mermaid" when it came out. Granted, it is the movie that pretty much saved the Disney animation department, but every time I watch it, I can see the desperation. It's hard to explain. It's like the whole movie was made to say, "LOOK HOW SPECTACULAR WE ARE!!!!!" Once it succeeded, they relaxed and started to have fun: "Aladdin", "Beauty & the Beast", "Lion King", etc.

HSM (which, I might add, I have never seen) is just as much Disney as the "The Parent Trap" (Haley Mills), "Super Dad" (Bob Crane) and "Pollyana" (good ol' Haley again). Actually, calling apples apples, I submit "Super Dad" for my generation...and I heartily apologize for it. I loved "Super Dad", but it was a movie very much of the '70s, and I was a child of the '70s. I haven't seen it since, and to be honest, am reluctant to. I don't know how HSM got to be such a huge monster, but it is still a movie for its generation...generally.

"Cars" and "Enchanted" are my girls' #1 and #2, respectively, favorite movies of "all time" (they are 5 and 3)...but I like them, too! I only saw the 1st PoTC, but do want to see the other 2...so the success and "magic" is still there for the most part.

I HATE, HATE, HATE the concept of sequellizing the cl@ssics!!! "Lady & the Tramp II", "Cinderella II and III", "Bambi II" (which destroyed the sweet personality of Bambi in the updating of it - although you've got to love Patrick Stewart as his father). The sequels to "Aladdin" and "Lion King" wasn't so bad a concept because they were immediate...but 50 years for a sequel? That's stretching it.

"Treasure Planet" was the first Disney animated movie that I had absolutely no interest in owning - and still don't have it. "Atlantis" I got, but it was a huge disappointment. If "Lilo & Stitch" wasn't between them, I might have soured on Disney animated movies completely.

Anyway, that's my take on Disney...mine, and mine alone.

The only good thing that happened to Disney or what they've done is buy Saban. At least we have Digimon reruns on Toon Disney.

Otherwise, their channel and corporation serves only to brainwash the pre-teen and teenage population into the perfect "ideal" environment. By asphyxiating teenagers from society, the younger American generation becomes malleable and can be easily corrupted by Washington. It's kind of like the Matrix to me.
