Just heard that half of the city of Koblenz had to be evacuated because they found an unexploded WWII British bomb. It weighs over 1&1/2 tons--they had to evacuate 45000 people before they could defuse it! I suppose Europe is full of unexploded live ordinance from the Second World War. I've even heard that occasionally people are killed by unexploded shells from the First World War, that ended way back in 1918! And even here in America, in 2008, there was a Viginia man who dug up a nearly 150 year old shell from the American Civil, like a fool he handled it and it exploded and killed him. I also saw a documentary on PBS that showed at the end of the First World War they took all these cannisters and shells filled with poison gas and simply buried them under a few feet of earth. They dig those up occasionally too. The Belgian government has a plant the neutralizes the gas. The doc said they should render those old WWI gas shells harmless by the year 2038 or something like that. My, all this news is scary. I guess the point of this is you shouldn'tgo digging holes in old battlefields. Frown

My friend from Cambodia got me a souvenir a while ago. A "Danger! Landmines!" shirt. His father found out the hard way when he was planting some vegetables so his family had something to eat, at least he only lost his legs.
