Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My husband and I have lived next door to these particular neighbors for a few years and we have not had problems with them until recently. They have been noisy and rude to the point of obnxiousness. It's just disrespectful. They play loud music at all hours of the night. They even play music outside. At times, they laugh uproariously with other people. This goes on at all hours of the night. I once asked politely if they could keep the noise down and they basically ignored me and since then, their behavior has gotten worse. The houses in my neighborhood are really close together and I am surprised no one else has complained.

Has anyone ever dealt with a similar situation? What do you do about noisy neighbors?

Usually it's possible to complain to the council if someone is being noisy. We used to have some neighbours who had a party which started on Friday afternoon and was still going on Monday morning when us normal people needed to go to work. People who went around and complained were told to **** off, or at least, they were if anyone could hear the knocking on the door.

Of course, one time someone decided to call the police because they could smell something and half the guests were arrested for smoking "cigarettes".

Wow, you're problem seemed worse than what we're going through. I wish people would simply have consideration for others. I haven't smelled the odor of "cigarettes" from these people but they seem like the type who would have the things. We'll see...hopefully they won't. I'm going to look into finding a way to complain. Thanks

Most communities have noise ordinances, where you can't be so noisy after a certain hour. If it stops before that time, you're pretty much SOL.

My husband is a 3rd-shift worker and we live in an apartment building. If our neighbors make noise while he's sleeping there is nothing we can do. He has taken to playing sound effects CDs while he sleeps to mask outside sounds.

Anyway, find out what it is in your area, and if they persist after the time, call the police.

I had practically the same exact problem, and I went to talk to the police to see what could be done about it. They told me i could file an anonymous complaint, in which case all they'd do would be send a cruiser by to check the noise level. Or I could file and sign a complaint, which would mean there would be a court date and the people would know who'd complained once you showed up at court to testify. Unfortunately, that probably would have lead to some violent repercussions which I wouldn't have wanted, so basically it's a case of not being able to do a bloody thing about it at all.

I'm sorry to say this but considerate people are an endangered species, unfortunately. Encounters with people of this sort are extremely rare and getting rarer all the time. All one can do is hope (and pray, if you believe in it) that these louts will move out on their own, and soon. I wish I had some more encouraging words for you, but I do wish you luck.

(This is all assuming that just using a rocket launcher to take them all out at once is not a feasible solution)

Ignore them if possible. But if it's like my upstairs neighbors-complete idiots who are total hypocrites-then best of luck. I have to put up with people who complain that my 9-10 year old stereo on 6-8 is shaking their house. The same people who made loads of noise moving in, shout at each other 7-8 in the morning and throw parties 'til about 2am. My Landlords response was to talk with me. Because me being at work from 3-11 was causing the neighbors lots of noise. And phoning the cops didn't do much. They sent a car up 'round to see what was on the go. That was it. So i live below people who I consider hippos because they walk so heavy. Not much you can do sometimes. Just be a polite neighbor and you get stuck with a******s.

I would say, politely and firmly tell them that they're disrupting you. You don't want some kind of tribal wars going on between you and your neighbours! That's the last chaos we need in our lives! Be consistent and firm and keep reminding them that you don't tolerate their rudeness or noise - good luck in the noise browser game!

Just approach their house and politely tell them what is going on. Hopefully they'll understand.

I've dealt with those kind of people before. Had one group of them that decided to have a party and then get into a fight. It wasn't a pretty sight in the morning either. There was blood on my patio (since the fools decided to fight either on theirs and the blood leaked down, or they came down stairs and fought on mine)... I was pretty ticked off about it.

Another time (this time recently), I had to deal with some fool making noise at 2 or 3 am, talking and vacuuming. Didn't get one ounce of sleep.

Generally, when thiskind of thing happens I tend to get ahold of the police, since trying to deal with the neighbors, more often then not doesn't work.

I just remembered something I had forgotten:

Years ago my husband and I had a downstairs neighbor who was a complete and total nightmare. One day in particular he had his music up so loud we couldn't even have a conversation. We didn't have a phone at the time, but a good friend lived around the corner & down a block, so we started walking to his house to call the police on it. Just before we got there, a police car was driving up and stopped, waving us over. He asked us if we happened to know where the loud music was coming from! We said, "We were just about to call on it; we're his upstairs neighbors."

The guy moved out soon after.

Call the police and if they don't stop making noises, call them again...after a few times they will have to pay a fine....!! I dealt with this problems for years and nowadays the law is more fair for people who have to deal with constant noise....!! Don't hesitate caus' I feel no sympathy for people who have total disrespect towards others....!!

Just contact the police. After a hefty fine, they shouldn't be able to afford a party.
