Yet it's expected that all Jewish guys be circumcised? I'm smelling some hypocrisy.

I'm guessing, but how about this:

Circumcision has to do with cleanliness and purification: tattoos are vanity and serve no purpose other than scarring the skin FOR vanity.

    Once again...just a guess.

Oh please. It's just a myth that it makes it more cleaner. Try another excuse. See this is the problem I have with religion, there's so many contradictions.

It looks like you just want to get on an anti-religion soapbox. That's fine. However, if you simply google the question, you'll come up with a whole bunch of non-contradictory answers. I know I learned a lot.

Also, before being so quick to spout information and then calling something else a myth, Jewish people with tattoos ARE allowed to be buried. THAT is just a myth.

Well wouldn't you agree that religion does screw some people up? I was raised a Jehovah Witness and I'll admit that I would be better off, if I were given the choice if I wanted to follow the religion. Apparently it's not a myth, because the reason Amy Whinehouse couldn't be buried is because she has tattoos.

It's basically an attempt to separate Jews from the pagans and there are a lot of rules designed to do that in Judaism. The Torah banned people from "incising marks" on their bodies including tattoos because that was associated with other religions, while circumcision (which the pagans generally didn't perform) was meant to be a covenant with God. Tattoos are also frowned upon because they are associated with the concentration camps.

And ktfahel is right, Jewish people are allowed to be buried even if they are tattooed - there are no rules against it and it's mostly accepted but a minority of Jewish cemeteries will refuse to allow a person who was willingly tattooed to be interred there.

So women can't have a way to covenant to God?

They probably have their own way which doesn't involve circumcision. It's just as well, too, since female circumcision is apparently far more unpleasant than the male version.

I remember watching a video about the procedure and a doctor from Africa that said she use to perform female circumcisions, said the scream boys make when getting cut is exactly the same the girls scream when their vagina gets cut.
