  • The opening phrase . . . ?

Wocka all. What is the opening phrase? The Partner In Crime says it's "Elvis Agnes". I don't think it's that convoluted, but I can't find out that it's anything else. Very frustrating that I can discover the exact angle for Spocks ears, but not something this simple.

An excellent working class comedy! (without the boredom) hide « show »

Back in 1969 a TV comedy series began called On the Buses releasing an episode called "the early shift". The show was about everyday working class life, featuring the life of bus driver Stan Butler and his conductor Jack Harper whom worked on bus no 11, employed by Luxton and District Bus Depot that ran to the cemetery gates along with the annoying Inspector Blake who was on their case, who'd do anything to get the buses out on time. Set around a London bus depot, ageing bachelor Stan Butler lived with his Mum, frumpy Sister Oliver and lazy brother in law Author. At work he and his conductor Jack who was a woman chaser, who'd eye up the clippies were constantly trying to dodge Inspector Blake, who never seemed to be able to get the better of them. The episodes surrounded the day to day life of Stan and his comical family along with Stan's hopes of finding success with one of the clippies which always ended up in some disaster or other, often caused by Stan's family. In conclusion I don't think there was one epidsode that i did'ent let out a few laughes, even though im proberly to young to appreciate this amazing show i still know it's top quality comedy that can be watched over and over again, without the feeling of boredom. An excellent working class comedy which is set to be popular for generations to come.

Classic comedy, no other words can describe this. It came out years ago, while I was a still a spark in my mothers eye. and yet, I've seen shows out now which don't come close to this. hide « show »

On the buses, in a few words, classic british comedy. I'd heard about it but never watched it until I saw an episode. what a series! basic storyline, a family and friends living out their lives, working at home and as bus drivers. For characters, there's Stan Butler, with his conductor,Jack getting themselves into all sorts of situations with "Blakey" who's constantly trying to get them the sack. On one occasion he drove their bus away, throwing them into panic. For Stans family, his mother who trys to keep things together but sometimes making mistakes (Such as owing a load of money to the milkman) but Olive, Stans sister can be worse, one time she ended up using tile cement on her cake while Arthur(Stans brother in law) used... well it's obvious. Now Stan can come up with some pretty clever one liners, normally about Olive such as...

Olive - "the way you talk about me, you'd think I'd have something missing up there"
Arthur - "You have, one of your eyelashes just fell off!" So with the timing, story and characters, this is a comedy that you should get a chance to experience.

This is classic sitcom at it's finest. hide « show »

This was definitely one of my favourite television series of all time. There is not one person in the cast who doesn't belong. Each character brings a unique talent and comedic style which makes this series one of the greatest. Who can ever forget poor, homely Olive and all the ridicule she must endure from her layabout husband, Arthur, and brother, Stan. And then there's Inspector Blake, who must endure his bus driver, Stan, and conductor, Jack (Stan's best friend), who call Blake everything from Dracula to Hitler. Of course, Blake's contempt for his workers doesn't make their life any easier either. I love British comedies and truly feel that this one is one of the best. If you have never seen this series or the spin-off TV movies i strongly recommend them if you want an evening of wit and entertainment. A rare treat indeed.

Set around The Luxton And District Bus Company and bus driver Stan Butler and his conductor Jack Harper.Their exploits see them on a constant mission to date the 'clippies'(female conductors) but the Bus Inspector Blake is waiting at every opportunity to hide « show »

This is my all-time favourite sit-com.Everything about this is sheer perfection with a cast that has that magical formula guaranteed to make you laugh.Driver Stan Butler's life isn't made easy as Inspector Blake is constantly telling him off,his mother who he lives at home with relies on him to put his family before his love life, his frumpy sister also lives with him and is noted for her terrible cooking, chillblains, rashes and overweightness and having a husband who constantly derides her and winds Stan up.Stan and his best mate and conductor Jack's pleasure in life is the opposite sex but in that department fate conspires constantly against them.Good clean family fun with great scripts, gags galore and great characters.
