Jake and Lily begin mediating their divorce, and the future of the house hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Rick struggles with a demanding client, complicating his partnership with David. At Jennifer's insistence, Grace fills in as an English tutor for Eli, and the two discuss Lily and Rick's recent breakup. Rick arrives at a decision regarding his future with Lily.
Write a Recap »This episode is both painful and reliving at the same time. Both Rick and Lily take time apart from each other after Lily's fatal mistake and are sorting out their feelings for one another. I'll admit it was just painful seeing both of them suffer from their emotional sdistonance with one another. The looks on their faces, thye know they need each other but they first have to get past that rift constructed, preventing them from truely loving each other. We see a few silent moments when the camera focuses in on both Rick and Lily's faces and the voices of the kids just fade in the background, as if both of them are thinking about each other and nothing else in life just doesn't seem to matter. It almost feels like their both almost touching each other despite how far apart. The distonance is literally killing both of them, in one scene Rick goes into his room in private and cries, just looking at his face you can see how destroyed he is. And at times even Lily exercises some desperation just to hear Rick's voice again when she rushes in one scene to the phone only to be disapointed when it's not him. I'll admit the distance apart looks so bad you almost just want to shake one of them and say, get back together. But they do at least come close when both of them by chance encounter meet one another in the school making mainly small talk but unfortunately little more, may'be the chanace encounter could be God's way of saying they belong together.
Also the subplots in the episode set up for what's to come latter. From Rick getting some kind of project from a very wealthy coporate boss, signing the diviorce papers and the arguing over who gets what Jake though it becomes slightly more unlikable as he once again acts self centered (or denial) by refusing to take some resposibility. But the real kicker is Eil and Grace the interaction between the two is sweet but also this was the first real shot in the relationship dynamic thread that runs thoughout all three seasons.
But all of what goes on builds up to that final moment just when you think Rick is going to sever the ties they formed he instead wants to stay together with Lily and forgives her. Sure may'be as Rick said the love is right, but timeing is wrong but as the old saying goes love knows no bounds.
