As noted in the other thread, Painkiller Jane will end its run on Sci Fi after just one season. Sci Fi will continue to show the remaining episodes but no more episodes will be filmed after the final one of this first season.

I'm not totally shocked by this but it's a little disappointing. I know the viewer numbers weren't that great and the critical reception was mixed at best. I wouldn't call this show a clas*sic but it has offered some decent action-oriented entertainment, along with a (not fully realized) look into the problem of what to do about people who are different and potentially dangerous (but not always).

I don't think there was enough material to extend this show for several seasons but I think they might have been able to keep it going for another year or two. In any case, Sci Fi has decided that one season is enough.

Farewell Jane. It's been nice knowin' you.

Yea Jane was a nice bridge to my late night Friday programming certainly worth the hour most of the time and if it's gone in lieu of Flash Gordon i'm extremely disappointed.

I expected it as well. That doesn't change the fact that I'll miss the show. The show was something different on the current schedule.

I'm just glad that they're not pulling "a fox", but are actually going to show all the episodes as originally planned.

    That's a small comfort though.

    Not really a surprise.
Honestly I would have been disappointed if they hadn't canceled it, there were far better sf shows canceled over the past few years keeping this on would have been an insult.

So your thought is "because better stuff has been cancelled, then so should this"? Well let's cancel all TV shows then, because there's already been something better in every genre before that's no longer on.

Either your though is ignorant, or I'm missing the point.

The show had WAY too many references throughout the first season of Jane may/may not be a neuro. As if they kept flip-flopping the idea. Yet if we take the original pilot episode...which had Emmanuelle Vaugier as Jane Browning...they explained her powers as being exposed to a biochemical weapon that alters her genes. She gains her self-healing powers and extraordinary physical and mental abilities.

They could have gone in any number of directions with how/why Jane has her powers. Obviously it has something to do with the "Emerald City" --the green building in her dreams-- from the first episode. Which has to have been a major downfall for the series. They never went back to at least start to filter her past. It's introduced in the first episode, then seemingly dropped for a "villain-of-the-week" format.

Another aspect that had to be a major downfall was the team. From the beginning I felt the team was too big. That just my opinion and how cliche, they kill off the black guy in the first episode and barely use the other. As soon as they started dropping characters, like Jane's teenaged neighbor, and then killed off Mo (Something they should of done in the first episode). It was clear they were cutting excess money, which was a big sign of the show going down hill fast. On top of all of this, they never started to develop the team. Outside of some romance crap scenes for Jane, and a silly little magician episode for Riley...where was the character development?

I actually liked what they were trying to do with Conner (starting in the episode "Trial by Fire") But they seemingly just dropped that too...and went back to the "VOW" format. There was just no development going on with these characters.

Outside of a few select episodes like "Catch Me If You Can", "Breakdown", & "Friendly Fire"...it was the same craptacular episode after another. Even some episodes with LOADS of potential like "Portraits of Lauren Gray" & "Ghost in the Machine", were HUGE letdowns. And just when I thought that a major villain was being established in "Piece of Mind", we never see him again until the clip show.

But I will have to say the one thing I disliked the most was the acting from Loken herself when dealing with a close death. The murder of her neighbor and the murder of Mo specifically. Yes, they showed Jane "valiantly" running into a full stream of bullets yelling "MO!" As she's hit a couple dozen times, and crumples to the floor...yet again. Of course this doesn't help Mo.

And damn could she feel anything less for her neighbor? For jesus-freakin'-christ she died because Jane wasn't home and all we get from her is a double-take. What?!? How about a tear...or something. I mean I know they had a funeral for Mo, but jeez...it seemed like the actors were going through the motions...with no emotions. I will admit the last straw for me (before I knew it was canceled) was the clip show. "Thanks for the Memories". My gosh I didn't expect a reset button here. All they did was take a little plot from a few previous episodes and threw in some clips. But let's kill off Jane's team, don't show any emotion over one of them being gunned down on the phone with her. Let's just hide.

Talking about a reset button, the next episode "Playback", is all about that. But really I'll stick around to the end, the only one I really want to see is "Jane 113".

The show had potential, but a serious lack of character development doomed this show from the beginning.

This forum is unbelievable you guys close threads because you don't wanna hear about ppl not liking the show.
Even though I completely disagree with those measures I tried to be polite because I can see how someone can get upset if he likes the show and everybody keeps bashing it I did not do that I was just giving my opinion... but since you don't seem to get it here it goes again a bit clearer.

This show is god awful I have never seen anything worse on SF. There are some things that just don't deserve to life on TV PJ is probably one of the top 3 on this list. Its not the fact that there are bad shows on TV but there are just a few that reach PJs level of sucking.
I, like most other ppl I know, just watched it because there was not much else around and because its like a really bad music video you just keep staring at it until its over because you cant believe how much worse it can get with every passing minute/episode.

Oh, and btw. your argument in another thread that ppl do still download it is just bad, first of all you guys should maybe start reading the comments on these downloads, 80% of them go like this "I don't know why I still get this show its so bad..." secondly ppl will download everything, big deal.

This seems to be the general opinion everywhere on the net, at least from what I hear, that is probably the reason why most ppl who do voice their opinion in here have got nothing good to say, they really do not like the show.

Why come to a forum and ***** about a show that you don't like. If you don't like it then don't bother. Anything else is just trolling.

Not that you'll care, but idefix7 consider yourself ignored by me on a going forward basis.

So basically, when I have something good to say I can use tv.com for that but for something bad I should go find another place to state an opinion... interesting.

In any case its pretty clear that after my first post I was not considered to be a troll but I was called ignorant.
After I clarify my point, which is pretty much necessary in that case, I'm a troll out of the sudden. Is that a method of yours to turn attention away from opinions you don't like?

I also like to add I do care... I'm happy I don't have to put up with that **** anymore.

I liked the basic concept of the show, I liked the actors but the storylines were half-baked, the show's potential wasted and the moral and even political message thus conveyed highly questionable. So, where does that leave me in terms of being 'allowed' to participate in this forum?

I really hoped they would get their stuff together. I stuck to watching despite disappointments. I say that gives me the right to voice my opinion here as well.

I'll be upset if Flash Gordon lasts longer than this. That show completely sucks.

    Dear Hollywood:

Please make a sci fi show with a kickass, beautiful, and witty female main character. A void has been left since Buffy. Painkiller Jane Failed. Bionic Woman will most likelyalso fail, because of miscasting. But I assure you there is an audience -- an eager audience -- waiting (and sobbing) for this void to be filled.

    Sincerely,

    Jax

p.s. If you need more reference material, please see Starbuck, Faith (Buffy), and (to a limited extent) Dark Angel. Thanks.

I have to admit I haven't yet watched my Flash Gordon taped episode. But I can't imagine that it could possibly be as good as PK was. Dark Angel she wasn't, and I can't justify that rationally here. Maybe Alba was just cuter, I dunno, but that show grabbed me a lot better. But PK was definitely too good to just toss.

And it got so much better with Jane 113. The show needed some lasting arcs, and they got it one week after they decided to drop it. It just needed a little more time.

Oddly enough according to a friend who watched Reflections (s01e21) when they advertised next week's finale they called it the Season Finale and not Series Finale. While I don't think it means they have removed the cancellation I did find it a bit odd. I cannot personally attest to this since I haven't had time to watch it yet but I have no reason to disbelieve what my friend said.

I agree with others I have seen post here and elsewhere that the announcement of the cancellation was unfortunate. I agree the show's development was at times slow and some of the episodes were downright abismal, IMHO, but right after they said it was over is when the really informative and interesting episodes began. Was this done intentionally to maybe get more people to watch or was it merely coincidental. I have no idea but I would really like it if they brought the show back and focused on more solid writing.

I really enjoyed watching Painkiller Jane. I'm actually a lil dissapointed that itsbeen cancelled.I am glad that they are still going to show the finale episodes. I am going to miss watching it. It was great while it lasted. Even though the ratings weren't so that great. It would of probably been good for anothe reason. Good luck to all of the actors. It was nice getting to know the show.

I'm pretty sure its just an unfortunate coincidence, since episodes are usually filmed long before they are aired.

I also noticed it saying Season Final most of the time and also Series final in the tv guide but when advertise for this week it was

avertised as Season Final. Maybe more people should write in that want the show to come back so SciFI will know to do

    more seasons.
