The beach house is the scene of a wild Rock and Roll party and a bored Petra hooks up with guitar player Buzz.
The morning after, the Angie walks into a room cluttered by clothes bodies and trash strewn about the beach house and a disapproving friend who ejects Buzz and advises her to slow down before the life she’s living kills her. She reminds Petra that they are at the beach for a rest, but at that point Dr. Calloway enters. Angie had sent for him to give Petra a checkup. Falling back asleep Petra dreams that the handsome doctor is either examining or molesting her. Awaken by a phone call from Carolyn Ambrose. She takes the opportunity to inquire about the doctor. Carolyn is very helpful telling Petra that he is unattached and jogs on the beach each day.
Outside by the pool Angie teases Petra about the doctor and suggests that she needs to run on the beach. Petra knowing she might run into the doctor agrees. She does and she does. The doctor is listening to opera, which Petra knows little about but she finds the sound powerful. She invites the doctor to dinner but he tells her he is very busy and eats on a irregular schedule.
A busy doctor’s schedule can’t keep a hot girl down so Petra fakes an illness and calls the doctor asking him to drop by. Then she prepares herself sitting by a fire to raise her temperature, prepares tea and lays on the sofa under a blanket setting the scene for the doctor’s visit.
Dr Calloway arrives and is not fooled. He watches while Petra dips he thermometer in the hot tea and reacts accordingly. He offers her an injection of antibiotic but agrees to phone in a prescription. Petra invites him to stay for takeout from a local Italian restaurant and he agrees to stay and eat with her. As he starts to leave, Petra stands up and then feigns a collapse into his waiting arms.
The good doctor holds Petra and asks her how she got so flushed telling he saw her dip the thermometer into the hot liquid. Even doctors get lonely out her he says and Petra is assured the happy ending she was seeking.
The next day Petra swims naked in the back yard pool as the doctor (Please call me David) emerges from the house. At Petra’s invitation he joins her in the pool and the credits roll.
