Sitting alone on the beach, a man is joined by an attractive woman. After a few moments he rises and starts to leave. The woman asks why he is leaving and the man tells her, in bits and pieces, that he was waiting for a girlfriend who had agreed to meet him there, on that morning, at that time… a promise that was made ten years ago.
“And you’re really really sure she’s not coming”? The woman asks. “Of course”, he replies. But then he has a spark of recognition. “Grace, Is that you”? “Well ten years is a long time” she remarks. While she never admits to being the long lost girlfriend the woman tells the man to “shut up and kiss me”. Overjoyed the man complies.
As the couple, no longer children, get to know each other they adjourn to the beach house. She tries to tell him that they have changed and it won’t be the same as he remembers. He tells her “I am ready to take you as your are”, well with one exception. Starting up to the bedroom they begin to disrobe on the way and never make to the comfort of the bed, instead making love where they are…on the staircase.
Finely reaching the bed and laying in each other’s arms David begins to ask Grace about the years they had been apart. Without being evasive, Grace replies with nonspecific answers. David begins to remember specifics of their time together the summer before she left and Grace tells him I can’t believe you waited all these years …for me.
They are interrupted by the sound of a woman outside the beach house. Grace jumps to her feet, dresses and quickly leaves. The door opens and Sharon enters excitedly leaping into David’s arms and like a tornado sweeping through the beach house. A call from Samantha informs David of Samantha’s pending arrival and serves to explain her presence and her relationship to David. Obviously David is no glad to see her, but he also doesn’t try to explain why he came to this romantic location alone.
Pressed, David tells Samantha that things change and that he needs to accept and move on. Samantha sends David out for an hour so she can cook up something for dinner. When he returns David finds Samantha has served up a double helping of herself surrounded by candles wearing a slinky red nothing of a night gown. David partakes.
Later David attempts to talk to Samantha about feeling and his love for his high school love. Excitedly Samantha jumps to a conclusion that David is over Grace but instead he tells her that while Grace is gone, he wants that kind of love again. Cards on the table Samantha reads her fortune and leaves telling David that he will be hard to replace.
The next morning David again goes to the beach and finds Grace. He tells her that Samantha is gone for good, and while he knows that the girl he knew in high school is also gone he wonders what the two of them can create…together.
Happily they adjourn to the bedroom and once again enjoy each other. No longer the past but now maybe the future.
As they discuss possible living arrangement, David asks her, “What’s you name. I can’t keep calling you Grace”. Krista she says.=
