Patricia has been nominated for 13 SAG awards. She was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. She won in 2003. She was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. All these nominations were for Everybody Loves Raymond. In 2005 she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Miniseries or Movie for The Goodbye Girl. (edit)
Patty has often joked about how even though she now knows that Ray Romano is a comedic genius and very sexually attractive, it didn't "jump out at her" when the show Everybody Loves Raymond first began. (edit)
Patricia has talked about how before she got cast in Everybody Loves Raymond, she was clipping coupons on her porch to save a few cents on some ballpark franks. When she was told that there was a new television show looking for a "Patty Heaton type," she went into the audition all flustered, because she was having babysitter issues at home. Apparently, though, this demeanor was a reflection of what the casting directors wanted in the Debra Barone character, so it helped Heaton land the job. (edit)
Patty has often told interviewers the story of how she was called for jury duty shortly after "Everybody Loves Raymond" wrapped up its final season, and she was put on a case about a bad construction job, so she spent weeks looking at photos of leaking drywall. The funny thing is that one of Patty's fellow jurors leaned over and whispered to her, "Were you on Seinfeld?" (edit)
Of Patty's four sons (Sam, John, Joe, and Dan), two of them were born during the time that "Everybody Loves Raymond" was on the air. The first time was in Season 1, when she was expecting Joe, and while it generally wasn't written in, Patty did get to show off her big bump in the Season 1 finale, when there was a flashback of Debra's pregnancy with her and Ray's daughter Ally. The second time came with Dan in Season 3, and it wasn't written in at all. Everyone worked around Patty's pregnancies by putting laundry baskets in her hand, sitting her down at the table for entire scenes, standing behind the couch, and even behind the refrigerator door. Patricia: I was playing paintball with the kids at my son's birthday party, and I snuck up behind him, and I was like, "Oh, he's only ten, and its his birthday....but screw it! I want that red flag!" (edit)
Patricia: (after the death of "Raymond" co-star Peter Boyle) My kids are big fans of the movie Young Frankenstein, and one day, I took them to the set of Raymond with me. I pointed to Peter Boyle and said, "That's Frankenstein!" And Peter would just chase them around the set, growling. He was so wonderful. There is talk of a reunion sometimes, but it just wouldn't be the same without Peter. (edit)
Patricia: (about her four children, all of them boys) You know, I was meant to have boys, because I love doing the paintball, the sports, and all that. I enjoy that. I like the physical stuff. (edit)
Patricia: A woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy also deserves to experience unplanned joy. (edit)
Patricia: Because my mother died when I was young, I don't take anything for granted at all. (edit)
