    • Shearer: (About the possibility of him getting the vacant Newcastle manager's job) A couple of days after Sam Allardyce got the sack I got a call from the club to say they were looking for an experienced manager, which ruled me out. What I can say is that if you want someone to galvanise the dressing room, get them organised and playing then, yes, I think I could do that. If they want that and someone with experience then I'm not that man. But I understand and respect their decision. But for me, it is about the experience you gather around you.

  • A legend on the football pitch still on our TV screens working for the BBC.

It's great to still be seeing big Al on our screens. He hung up the boots once and for all last May, but has since been working for BBC as a pundit on shows such as Match Of The Day, or during special FA cup or England matches. He was also in Germany last summer for the British tv network.

His record as a player is simply amazing. His goal scoring achievements make him arguably the best English striker there has even been. He scored over 90 league goals in 3 consecutive seasons guiding Blackburn to the title in 1995. Captained his country for 4 years, and in 96 at the peak of his talent went back to play for his home town club Newcastle United. Legend.moreless
