Even after finishing Generation Kill (2008), Alex has kept close ties with the miniseries' cast members like Straw Dogs co-star Billy Lush, whom he still gets to hang out with.

In support of International Fund for Animal Welfare's Tails for Whales campaign, Alex and True Blood co-star Kristin Bauer posed with their hands as a petition calling for stronger whale protection. Alexander also supports Amnesty International, International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Human Rights and Animal Rights.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys sailing and fishing.

He was named as one of the 12 Actors to Watch in 2009 by About.com along with Twilight's Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. He was also listed as one of Entertainment Weekly's 14 Hot Vampires for his role as Eric Northman on True Blood.

Skarsgard played the lover of Lady GaGa in her 2009 video, Paparazzi.

A typical breakfast for Alex consists of tea and orange juice plus oatmeal with banana and berries. He is a non-vegetarian, drinks beer, and considers Mexican as his favorite food.

When he was in Africa for the filming of Generation Kill, Alex would spend his free time just sleeping. He would love to go back someday to explore the continent further.

If he wasn't in the acting business, Alex would have wanted to become an architect. Also, he could not imagine himself having accounting as a profession.

His work on stage includes performing in Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (2002) at Södra Teatern in Stockholm, Sweden and portraying Leonardo in Bloodwedding (2003) at Gothemburg State Theatre.

Alexander's favorite actress is Isabelle Huppert from the movie The Piano Player while his favorite actor is Gary Oldman. He is also a fan of actor Daniel Day Lewis and would like to somebody work with him in a film. Duck Soup is his favorite movie.

Alexander started acting at the age of seven. He stopped when he was 13 and only acted again seven years later.

Alexander has worked with a dialect coach to become more Americanized to avoid being stereotyped. He is fluent in English and Swedish. Alex also knows a bit of German and French.

Alexander was voted sexiest man in Sweden five times. In 2009, Access Hollywood named him its Rising Star to Watch.

He is the son of actor Stellan Skarsgård and My Skarsgård, a doctor. His siblings are Sam Skarsgård, Bill Skarsgård, Eija Skarsgård and Valter Skarsgård, and Gustaf Skarsgård. Bill, Gustaf, and Valter are also actors. Alexander also has a half-brother Ossian born 26 April 2009.

Aside from being an actor, Skarsgard is also a director. In 2003, he co-wrote and co-directed the award-winning drama short Att döda ett barn (To Kill a Child).

Alexander is 6' 4" (1.93 m) tall. He has brown hair and green eyes. He has a tattoo of a bird on his leg.
