Forums: Alexis Bledel Board: Alexis' English

Hi!. I love Gilmore Girls, though i didn't like the end of the season 6 and season 7 isn't great too. I think Alexis Bledel is an exelent actress and considering she is a native Sanish speaker, i don't understand how she speaks english so well. I'm from Chile and my english isn't great, i wanted to know if the netive english speakers think she has latin accent. Do you think she has?

I don't think she does.  I think she has been speaking English for many years, and most likely learned as a child.  It is easier for children to learn other languages minus the accent.

I didn't even know she wasn't a native English speaker. Her accent sounds pretty American to me.

She isn't a native spanish speaker. She is american. And yes, her parents are native spanish speakers, but she was born and raised in america, and her english is good because of that. She might speak spanish very well too, I don't know, but that wouldn't influence her english.

I was asking because when I heard her first lenguage was Spanish and that she learned English in the school I thought she was born in Argentina or Mexico (where her parents come from) and I just thought she could have some accent, but I was asking because I thought that maybe I didn´t notice being a non english native speaker. Thanks for clearing it up.

Her first language is spanish and she did learn english in school. but american school - so it's quite obvious she learned it fast and good. And considering that she has been speaking english since she was 4 or sth she doesn't have clear spanish accent (she sounds a little different though)
