Alfonso Gomez was one of my favorites in the whole "Contender" tournament. hide show

Alfonso Gomez could easily be loved. He is a guy I would love to be friends with, and he is also good in the ring.
Alfonso surprised everyone on both teams when he selected to fight Peter Manfredo, Jr. in the very first episode. Sergio Mora felt Peter was the East's strongest fighter, while Alfonso was one of the West's weakest links. Well, that's what everyone felt at first anyway. But we were all proven wrong when Gomez punished Manfredo for five rounds and sent him home.
It was heartwarming when we saw Gomez pick out a suit to wear. He chose a white suit that kind of reminded me of Tony Montana from Scarface. So it looked insanely cool on Alfonso.
In the Second Round of the tournament, Peter Manfredo, who came back to replace Jeff Fraza, who left with the chickenpox, put Gomez up against Ahmed Kaddour. Alfonso looked like he was going to be knocked out in the 5th Round, but since he won the majority of rounds he was given the victory.
Alfonso became pretty good friends with a lot of the guys in the suite, especially Ishe Smith and Sergio Mora. Gomez went on two consecutive rewards with Mora, which was cool considering I liked them both a lot.
Manfredo, Jr. wanted to avenge his loss to Alfonso so he picked to fight him in the Third Round of the tournament. The fight turned out to be a battle, but instead of Gomez coming out victorious, he came out swollen and bruised, losing to Manfredo.
Though Gomez could not win the tournament since he lost, he still fought for Bronze against the favored Jesse Brinkley. Gomez clobbered Brinkley in the majority of rounds and won. He proved that underdogs could win matches in life as long as they have heart.
Alfonso Gomez was one of my favorites in the whole "Contender" tournament. He had the personality, he had devotion toward his family, and he had the heart.
