    • Alvin worked for the Service Bureau for Education in Human Relations, a WPA project at Columbia University. He wrote 26 playlets - each being an exposition of the contributions of the many racial groups contributing to the culture of the United States.

    • Alvin Childress was a pre-med student at Rust College in holly Springs, Mississippi, graduating with a B.A. in 1931 before going to New York and performing on Broadway.
